A new brewery in Ventura, California just posted this to their social media: https://smokemtn.com/the-shop/join-the-beer-club/ Does anyone have any details on Smoke Mountain's beer? Quality?
$300 for a 12 pack throughout the year from an unknown brewery seems pretty fair. Too bad that if I actually liked the beer I can't buy more because these beers are ONLY available if I join the membership. $25 for a DIPA, a Gose, & a Blonde are really great prices! I think the 3 different beers look quite unique from one another...
$25 for a 750mL that I can't really try. Or choose to not have something sent to me. I mean blondes are not really my favorite type of beer, I drink them, but fairly rarely. If I found out I just paid $25 for one I would flip out.
People bitched like a grizzled old sea captain with hemorroids with they wanted $25 for that Tony Gwynn Imperial IPA release. In a friggin' gold bottle. Which I thought was a mighty righteous gripe. I hope that's a great gose, or someone's getting plucked. More likely these are just three styles they can get released relatively expeditiously.
I visited this brewery yesterday and was able to hangout with the owners/founders and their brewers. Very solid hospitality with beers to match. That $75 pricing is scary but they're a small batch brewery with 80-95 bottles made of each variant. The honey lavender and DIPA were the highlights IMHO. They have a smoked porter and pumpkin ale dropping for the winter pkg. They grow their own hops and planning to open a tasting room soon too. I see a lot of potential with these guys and they're a winery too that's been around for about 35yrs. The Gose was different but not a horrible beer. The salt is upfront with the coriander but it has a subtle finish, I enjoyed it a lot more as it warmed up.
They need to lower to price to $30 a quarter (I would say $25, but I am feeling generous). if a small brewery can not figure out how to make these kinds of beers for less than $10 a bottle, then they shouldn't be brewing the stuff they are brewing.
