Smoked Beer Appreciation Thread (2025)

Hammerheart Herbstklagen, a rauchbier marzen:



Rich malty flavor with a big smoke hit, I need to do a side-by-side with Schlenkerla.

 

So, does it use Klages malt? Or are they translating literally from German: Autumn Complaint?

 

The can says it is named after Waldgefluster's first album, who apparently are from Germany. "Autumn Lamentations"

Hammerheart Skoll och Hati Chocolate Smoked Stout


Starts chocolatety, then gives a long smoky finish. Tasty stuff, better than I remember.

 

The Instagram post for this beer declared, "Made with 70% smoked malt because, well, you can't please everybody."



This is not a training-wheels rauchbier. This is a rauchbier for rauchbier lovers. And it is wonderful.

In Vermont, Switchback is really trying to focus on smoked beers. I’m not sure I’m convinced but some are pretty good.
