Its not a mind blowing idea, but to really glean something out of it brewing the corresponding SMASH side by side with it makes sense.

I've only tried it with BP at 5% and it was more porter than ale

going up to 10% might well be better though

Brewed my single biscuit last weekend, a very easy brew day with no kinks... cant wait.

What percentage would you suggest when using only Special B? Or Caravienne? Enough to get the idea of the malt flavor profile, but still a drinkable balanced beer.

I have a few regular recipes that fit the criteria already, notably a belgian pale, which my 2nd batch of is in the fermenter sitting six feet behind me. and my steam style, which uses 2 row, C40 and northern brewers.

A favorite 2013 homebrewing was maris otter and golden naked oats and Whitbread goldings variety brewed to special bitter strength (of ~1.045). MO:GNO ~10:1. I think I used ~2 oz @ 60 min and 2 in a whirlpool.

Been thinking about this and what jbakajust1 said about the Arrogant Bastard rumor. Maybe something like this:
    12.5 lbs Munich
    1.5 lbs Special B
    4-6 oz Chinook thoughout
California Ale yeast or maybe Pac Man
dryhop with an oz or 2 of Chinook

Pretty much all my pale ales are this way these days. 75% 2row, 25% munich.

Arrogant Bastard is pretty malty though, Thats why I want to use it for 90%... Either way I bet it will be nothing like AB, but whatever, it still just looks like a tasty beer IMO...

This makes since, bc the first time I tried AB, I liked it (i think I love special b). The second time I noticed the hops weren't really to my liking. (Don't like chinook, or simcoe)
