We have learned from @sierranevadabill in this thread that Kellerweis may be in danger one day down the road:

What are your thoughts on this beer? While Hefeweizens are not a style I find myself picking up often, I do get in the mood for them from time to time (especially in the warmer months) and SN Kellerweis is always a go to for me; and the ratings on this site seem to favor the beer quite a bit as well. Also, I find that I can please pretty much anyone with this beer so it's a good option when the situation calls for it.

I'm definitely going to be grabbing some soon!

Its something Ive been meaning to try for a while so Ill have to pick up a sixer. I could imagine its not easy to compete with German weissbiers at the same price point.

You mentioned: “I do get in the mood for them from time to time (especially in the warmer months)”.

I would suggest that you are not alone here and this could be a significant reason for poor overall (year round) sales of SN Kellerweis; it would be interesting to know the sales figures per month for this product. Maybe it would be prudent for SN to make this a 6 month release product similar to how Bell’s does for the majority of the distribution of Bell’s Oberon?

@ESHBG you personally have lots of other Hefeweizens to pick from since you live is PA: Sly Fox Royal Weisse, Stoudts Heifer-in-Wheat, Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat, Victory Sunrise Wheat, Victory Mad King Weisse, …

    Cheers!

It's the best widely available American brewed hefeweizen IMO. I usually buy a pack of it when I am in the mood for a Hefe because the price is unbeatable. Usually in the warmer months. I probably bought 4 or 5 packs last summer.

Not a bad idea at all and I'm sure it is going to land in the Summer seasonal so that they can spread the word a bit.

Yep, exactly, and I grabbed those beers when in the mood as well.

It's just a really awesome hef, and it stands right up there with German hefs quality-wise. Kellerweis surpasses them in the price game, and it's absolutely delicious.

It is definitely on the light side as hefs go (4.8% ABV), and as Jack suggests, it has a lot going for it in the warmer months: super refreshing and to say just "drinkable" would be an understatement. Still, I try to buy it periodically all year around. I don't want to see that beer going anywhere.

    Drinkable in German is süffig.

    Kellerweisse is indeed süffig!

It's good, but with Weihenstephaner at a very similar price point, I pick up that whenever I'm in the mood for a hefeweizen. It's much better than Kellelrweis.

This is one SN brew I wouldn't be too sad to see go. Their hoppy beers (and their stout) are more of their strength.

But if I remember correctly, Oberon (and possibly Oarsman) are year-round in markets like AZ and FL. I'd be curious to see if Kelleweis sells better in those markets throughout the year. Where are our data geeks/miners when we need them?

You are correct and that is why I posted: “…6 month release product similar to how Bell’s does for the majority of the distribution of Bell’s Oberon?”

Bell’s sells Oberon year round in the warm weather states of Arizona and Florida. Sierra Nevada could utilize that pattern of distribution too if it makes business sense for them.

    Cheers!

I like the style and probably drink a hefeweizen every week or two but SN Kellerweisse has never done it for me, I vastly prefer Weihenstephaner, Schneider Weisse and several other of the German imports. I haven't had too many American hefeweizens and several that I have had I'd prefer to forget but did find New Glarus Dancing Man Wheat to be leagues better than Kellerweisse and the best American example I've had so far.
I was sorry to see SN ESB go and I'd like to see Ruthless Rye continue as a 6-pack but if they delete Kellerweisse I won't shed a tear.

Tried it. Thought it was decent. But truth be told, the choice between a 6pk of Kellerweiss @ $9.99 vs. 16.9oz bottles of Weihenstephaner Hefe at $2.99 each, I'll reach for a bottle of Weihenstephaner every time, not because of the price/value point, not because I'm a light drinker and a 6pk would sit in the fridge for better than a month before it is finished... but because of the fact that nothing in my book comes close to Weihenstephaner for the style.

I personally enjoy drinking fresh Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen. I can’t always find fresh Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen. When I do find it fresh I buy it.

    Cheers!

I think SN may be planning to put Kellerweis in one of the upcoming samplers (probably the summer edition) so maybe that will help boost interest in the beer.

This is one of Sierra Nevada's best. I tend to drink more Live Oak at bars, and now many places do growlers, so I have even easier access to that one. I will need to make a more concerted effort to pick up some Kellerweis.

I'd probably reach for the Weihenstephaner note often, too, at those price points. I'll concede that Weihenstephaner is most likely the pinnacle of hefeweizen, but for me the Weihenstephaner single is $3.50 and the Kellerweis 6 pack is $6.99... That makes my decision pretty straight forward when there's not much coin in the pocket.

My first Kellerweis of the year is a personal tradition that along with grilling, makes me feel like spring has arrived.

It is also one of my favorite beers. Not favorite SN beers, or favorite hefeweizens, just favorite beers overall. I'd be very sad to see it go.

It's a solid brew, but personally I won't lose sleep if it takes a hiatus or becomes a 3-month seasonal etc. I don't drink hefe's often enough that it would make a big difference to me; warmer months tend to be my pilsner and saison season.

Live Oak makes an excellent Hefeweizen.

For me the shame is that it is draft only (and solely available in Texas).:slight_frown:

    Cheers!
