    Hi all,

I recently picked up a 3-body secondary regulator on eBay that unfortunately arrived with one of the gas out valves snapped halfway off (appears to have happened during shipping, despite great packaging).

I've already initiated a return, but it struck me that I might be able to remove the snapped off bit of pipe and replace it, which would be great since I got a great deal on this regulator ($40) that I wouldn't be able to replicate right now.

Does anyone have experience removing a snapped off MFL threaded pipe? Is it possible? Do I need a special tool?

    Sorry about the unfortunate accident.

This is a simple gas shut off valve. See the thread entering the valve on the left? It’s exactly the same as the thread that enters the regulator body on the other side of the valve.

Your repair may be as simple as removing the valve and threading the gas out line directly into the regulator. Of course, this all depends on exactly where the damage occurred. The break you speak of doesn’t seem to be obvious by looking at your snapshot.

If you are talking about the male threaded portion of the gas shutoff valve being broken that's a simple fix (that is if you can back it out). Replacement is $10 (or less) and a crescent wrench and pipe tape is all you need. There should be a "hex" geometry on the valve for the crescent to grab. If the female threaded portion on the secondary body is buggered-up you may be SOL. These fitting are almost always 1/4", so easy enough to switch and swap.

You didn't ask, but by adding a "wye" you can double the gas lines out of that secondary. Wyes are also cheap and no more trouble to replace than a single shutoff valve. Just about everyone carries them:

Basically the male portion of the connector between the check valve and the regulator body is going to be stuck in the regulator body female port if/when the whole thing actually snaps off.

Here's a shot of the broken part:

The earlier shot was from the eBay listing.

Needle nose pliers should be able to get a bite on that, if not jam a large screwdriver into it and unscrew it.
