Just a thought, but aren't all these ISO/FT's that read like this: ISO:King Henry/FT: Cellar Link Inside or Gots; and this: FT: King Henry/ISO: Wants; and this: ISO: King Henry/FT: Let's Talk. essentially auctions? Or at least very lazy traders? And aren't auctions against the rules? And don't the rules also state to be as specific as possible? Last thing I want to do, if someone is trying to trade for a beer I have, is have to fish through their Gots or Cellar to see if there is anything that looks worth trading for. That's just a BA who hasn't done their homework and/or is too lazy to do so. Please discuss.
The auctioning isnt even being hidden any more. I saw one today that outright said something to the effect of "best offer gets it." If thats not an auction, I dont know what the hell is.
I consider them auctions. I would prefer that the FT: would be specific or at least a choose x# from the list.
the question is where does the line get drawn. There are many people that are looking for a "whale" that say I'll trade these 3 bottles for x beer. Then if that doesnt work. They put up another bottle, and so on and so forth. Also nearly every trade at the end says. If none of these options work BM me and we can work something out. Or you could just say. 12 - 1 on Loerik and then everyone thinks its an april fools joke.
For years, people have been doing, ISO: List / FT: List. It's nothing new and is probably a split between laziness and auctioning. You shouldn't be going after King Henry anymore anyway. Its 'trade price' is way higher than its taste value.
Trading anything is very subjective. There are 2 factors. How you value your beer and the one you are trading for and how your trading partner values their beer and what they are trading for. And unfortunatley these 2 never seem to line up exactly and it goes back and forth. Its how trades in goods have been for the last 2000 years. Especially if there is no widely reconized real world market for these items. Oh and everyone is trying to win their trades, so you have to factor that in as well.
I couldn't disagree with you more. When I am ISO a particular bottle, the problem lies in that I don't know what people want for it. Every person is different. In the past, I originally tried to specifically list an example of beers I had available for trade, but I would very often receive messages stating "I have XXXX, but am not interested in what you have listed. Do you have anything else available for trade?". After a while, I decided to just use the whole "List" approach, or even have them contact me so I can provide a cellar link. When you have something like 300+ bottles for trade, you sure as hell as not going to list every single one of those bottles in your trade thread. It certainly is not laziness, nor is it auctioning. I look it as I am giving my trader their personal choice of what they'd like, rather than me telling them that they have but only a few options to choose from. You'd be amazed at how much more action you get when you go this route.
"ISO: specific / FT: list" is very different from "ISO: list / FT: list" Especially when the latter is just the same content reposted day after day after day. You may have good intentions, but there's a crowd of people who have ruined it for you.
I agree with this. The problem that I run into is getting messages from lazy people who aren't specific. They'll just say "I have Beer X (the one I'm ISO)...." Then silence. It's like they expect me to fill in what I would give for their bottle despite me providing a list. If people aren't specific in their messages to me, I usually just pass. A good offer to send would be: I have Beer X that you are looking for. From your list you posted, I would like Beer Y. Thoughts? Not a good offer: I have beer X you want. I am interested in Beers G, H, U, Q, F, 7, &, R, E, O, @. Not all of them obviously. Thoughts? However, I understand that the offerer might not know the exact value or what I'd be willing to give, but at least try to be specific. I don't want to have to do the all the work. It also sorta seems auction-y.
So what about a post that looks like this: FT: KBS/ISO: HF. Is that specific enough or also too generalized?
It's pretty general but some people don't care. Why not take an extra 20 seconds and go with this: -------- FT KBS x (however many you have available) ISO Growler of Abner (or whatever you are looking for) Would like to keep it $4$. -------- Easy right?
