I generally enjoy drinking out of a Spiegelau tulip (they call it a "stemmed pilsner"). I'm wondering what the advantages of a snifter are over a tulip, when drinking imperial stouts and barleywines and such in particular. I think I'd like a set of smaller snifters for the purpose of hosting tastings. I think a smaller snifter would work better for smaller pours, so that they're not lost in a glass intended for larger pours. I'd prefer that these snifters be constructed of very high quality crystal. Please share your thoughts and/or suggestions on either point. Thanks in advance for any and all input. This place is awesome.
IMHO, little bitty snifters are a pain in the arse for tastings. too damn hard to drink out of them, unlike their full sized cousins. i'd rethink it if i were you - which i actually am, as i have a set and will rarely, if ever, use them again...
I actually have the opposite feelings towards tasting sized snifters. I don't feel they are harder to drink out of in any way and are perfect for 4-6 oz. pours.
I disagree. I think the mini snifters are perfect for tastings. Just bought me a 6 oz pair and I love them.
6oz, maybe so... the ones i have and am speaking about are 4oz max, probably closer to 3oz edit: indeed, they are 3oz, which if i'm not mistaken would be the typical size for a "taster" or a "tasting" glass so there's some info for the OP: 3oz, dont do it, but 6oz, have at it.
One of the restaurants near me does their flights with the mini (6oz.) snifters and I like them better than the traditional tasters.
Just got these for a tasting a couple of weeks ago. Same glass that FW uses for their tasters. Worked like a charm http://www.amazon.com/Citation-Brandy-Snifter-oz-case/dp/B0001MS1K8
