Heh, you don't recall the bitching over the price of the Wicked Weed's Dark Arts release? It's all good though, I really meant the list to lighten the mood in this thread :grinning::wink::slight_smile::stuck_out_tongue:

since you and your girlfriend essentially got double what you would have if they had gone by the number on your tickets, i don't see any reason why you shouldn't have a couple of bottles to spare for any friends that might have missed out.

I think the logic is more bottles end up with locals/regulars on a weekday. Not saying I agree with it, but I get it.

Your theory is not accounting for Wicked Weed releasing far more than 368 bottles. More beer means fewer complaints.

I get releasing it on a weekday. While not convenient for many, it makes total sense if you're trying to hook up the locals. I just don't get opening at 2 and then doing the bottle sales at 4.

Just seems like that 2 hour period provides an opportunity for shenanigans to occur versus if you just have people line up outside prior to opening and then start selling bottles when you open.

This way they were able to get people to drink beers for 2 hours before the release rather than buy bottles and hit the road

Gotcha. Yeah I mean that makes sense from a revenue standpoint. Not really from a standpoint have having a smooth bottle release though. But yeah I didn't think about that.

Was that the stout? I missed the whole thing like I said before, but a friend of mine who went by and also missed out by like 10 minutes on Snozzberry, picked one up for me. I like Green Man's stouts, I know a lot of people don't give them much love in reviews but I think Forester is solid as was Dweller. I think they make pretty decent darker beers and of course the sours, its the ales and the ESB I am not so crazy about.

Got tired of reading all the comments in this thread. But man, wish I could have a bottle!

I don't know, maybe im completely off my rocker here, but what about this idea?

They don't announce when the bottles will be realeased. The make them available mid to end of week. Locals and regulars have first Crack at bottles. Word of mouth starts to spread on the interwebs. Bottles are around for days, giving everybody a chance to get to the brewery to get some. No hype, No lines, no shitshows, no tickets, etc, etc. Sure there will be some people butthurt that they didn't know about it and missed out on bottles. And maybe not having a big party isn't the best business plan for the brewery. Maybe this is just the ramblings of someone who is not a fan of beer releases. Hell I drove by Green Man about 4:15, saw the mass of humanity outside and decided I was going to go to the bar and drink beer rather than wait in line for a couple bottles of it. i know there are people who like these kinds of events. I'm just not one of them, so maybe my idea is kind of selfish.

I'm staying the night in town tonight. I would like to try snozzberry. It looks like it's gone in bottles but is it on tap? I could trade away the new BA barleywine from RAPP if anyone was interested too.

Could work but then you end up with an even smaller group ending up with with a large stash of bottles and I'm sure even more would end up for sale or for trade. I'm not sure if there will ever be a perfect situation where everyone is happy.

I find quiet releases where the beer mostly goes to regulars that enjoy drinking your beer results in more people buying the beer to drink, instead of people wanting to immediately turn the beer for a profit. I was sitting in the bar drinking, which I do usually once a week. I had never seen most of the people in the line in Green Man before. As far as the half dozen people my group noticed line jumping, not a single one was recognized by anyone. You certainly won't get out of town hoarders trying to trade for extra bottles before the beer is even released.

From a business standpoint, release events increase demand and get the brewery name out in public. The increase in demand increases the secondary market value. Other than the apparent disorganized nature of this particular release, my opinion is the manner of release is a business decision to be made by the brewer. It is their business, so who am I to complain about which decision they make?

Anybody else notice the "5" in hand-written silver sharpie covering up what appears to be an "8" on the ABV? Were they expecting it to be stronger this time around and then it turned out to not be, or was it just a typo?

Anyone have a bottle from last year left? I thought it was closer to 8% ABV last time.

Looked at my bottle from last year and it says 5.5%. It's on the bottom front of the bottle though, not on the side like this year's. I was gonna say maybe they used the same template as for Bootsy and just didn't change the abv, but Bootsy says 9% not 8.5%. Seems like just a typo to me.

Mike said they made the label without running it by him first and put the wrong ABV on it. He and his wife spent the evening fixing the labels with sharpie while filling the bottles. Doesn't matter cause the beer is damn delicious either way.
