http://snuffle-dogbeer.com/ So some company in Belgium is marketing a new "beer" for dogs. In the about section, they admit that their beverage isn't a beer. Technically Snuffle isn't a real beer of course. It contains no alcohol what so ever and it is non-sparkling. (Who needs a drunk, burping dog?) But emotionally it is most certainly is a beer. I don't get it. How far can these companies go to make a buck? It says right on the bottle "dog beer." I understand what they're getting at, but this just seems like false advertising.
There's also a company in Bend making Dawg Grog, but they pitch it as a dietary supplement rather than just a beer. Apparently dogs really do like it, but at $6 per "pint" I'm not sure I could justify buying it.
I am not a dog lover, but dog lovers will chime in on how beer can be fatal to dogs and this kind of beer could send a wrong message to people that beer for dogs is ok.
"Back in the day" my dad used to pour a Schmidt beer into our black labs water bowl every once in a while on a hot summer day, the dog seemed to enjoy it. Lived to be 13.
I think it would be a smart marketing ploy. A lot of brewpubs allow dogs. Especially if they have an outside seating area. Market the bad batches to the dogs.
