So, my father in law got me this Growlerwerks uKeg 64oz growler at a thrift store for nothing (retails for like 200 bucks). Dont really do the growler thing often now, but thought it would be fun to fix it up and see if it works. Got it working this week, and got the co2 cartridges for it, so now I want to fill it. Question is, do breweries around so cal still fill random growlers? Can anyone attest to this? I live in North County SD and would actually love to get it filled for NYE with some buddies for the nostalgia, but I'm checking every breweries website and no one has any sort of growler FAQs anymore haha. For those wondering, this is what he found https://perfectwerks.com/collection...64-pressurized-growler?variant=32087006380147
Last I recall (and this was a while ago so call ahead and confirm): Coronado Brewing (only main location) Alesmith Pizza Port (this I think was with their own branded last I checked, which again, was quite a while ago) Pure Project (only miramar location) Mission Brewing I know almost all of those are out of your area though. Carlsbad Brewing might, but they didn't when they were Acoustic Ales so unlikely to have changed their minds. Modern Times did for a while but that was out of their main (gone) and north park locations. Not sure if Encinitas location would but can't hurt to call and ask.
I randomly went to Monkish in Anaheim today with some old school wine sized growlers and they turned me down. I was told that they don’t fill anything - even crowlers. Then I was told that he wasn’t sure, but maybe Torrance still does them for beers that you can’t buy cans in. A phone call would have easily solved everything without having to go in, but neither location pick up calls (while Anaheim doesn’t even have a direct phone line). Kind of a shitty process for sure and just a uninviting experience to it all.
Almost went to their Anaheim location yesterday, but saw on their website they didn’t have interesting in to go cans. Maybe next year.
I always carry a 32 oz growler when I'm out and about, in case of an interesting beer on tap. Some will fill and some won't. More often I find they are out of the crowler cans! But that's a very deluxe-looking contraption and I hope it will give you joy!
A few weeks back I was at the Torrance tap room and overhead a customer asking if they sold Growlers, a worker said no but they would fill them if you bring one in.
Same. Also have a 64oz Hydroflask filled with dog/spare water that can be used in a beer emergency for a truly outstanding brew.
