Could someone please explain what BIF, LIF, and GIF mean and how they work. I checked the FAQ's section but didn't see anything. I understand the "it forward" part and realize this is about getting awesome beer into the hands of awesome people, but I want to know the specifics. I want to know because I'd like to get in on one and or start one. I have received some great beer love over the last couple of months and would like to give back. And of course, if possible, I'd love to try a beer from a brewery I can't get. Thanks in advance for the information and my apologies if this is covered elsewhere on the boards/site. Salute!
Lottery It Foward. Someone essentially is giving away a beer and if you meet the criteria you are thrown in to a hat and they pick a winner. Beer It Foward. Someone picks a theme and send a box of beer to someone who in turn sends one to someone else. Usually there are about 15 people involved but it can be bigger. Growler it Foward. Same as BiF but with growlers. Keep an eye in the It Foward forum. Hope this helps a little.
Awesome. Thanks for the quick response! In these Beer it Forward scenarios, is it customary that the person who sends the original beer gets one from the last person to "complete the circle"?
Yep. Or, in a "shotgun style" BIF, everyone sends to their targets within the same time period rather than 1 at a time. In either case, everyone gets a box.
Cool, thanks again for the responses. So what's the deal with all this "hints and hauls" stuff I am seeing on this board?
It's just part of the fun. No one except the BIF organizer knows who the "targets" are, so the Hints portion is for you to hint towards who you are shipping to. A lot of people try to make them ambiguous to keep people guessing, it's all part of the fun. Then the Hauls portion is simply the haul (i.e. what you received).
Cool. I really do love the BA community for this type of stuff. Someday I'd like to do a BIF with the focus being "Beers in your local area that you think can stand up the big boys." That'd be cool. Although, having not done any so far I probably shouldn't take on organizing everyone's "targets" just yet. Thanks again for the info!
Sounds good, although like you hinted towards I would advise against running one at this time. Jump in a few to get a feel for how they run and then take a shot at running one if you're up for the task!
