Folks, A big slide in the AUD in the past few days, and US80c being mentioned as a mid-term outlook. A long way from the US$50c of a while ago but still on the slide. Interesting to hear thoughts from those in the know about the impacts on both the big ticket items like SN on the shelves of Dannos, and also say for example, Jester King, that have just been tried on a much smaller scale. cheers
As long as Australia is viable, as in demand, the beers will keep coming. Just need the dollar to stay at $.90 so I can drink lots of Oatmeal Yeti, sessionable high ABV beers from Avery and proper sours from Cascade, Russian River and Crooked Stave when back home in December. Call me selfish
I agree with Mulder that as long as the demand stays strong the beers should keep coming in the short to medium long-term but I do foresee our dollar continuing to go south as the world econonies catch up to us and our interest rates remain low.
Probably true in the long-term, but economists have been predicting the AUD 'bubble' to burst almost weekly for the past 2 years. Few professions have as a bad a track record as economists.
You won't see much change if any in the bigger breweries like Sierra Nevada. The smaller guys will get hit the hardest as volume is so small they can't exactly take 10c on the dollar in stride. Why can't this happen AFTER I get my tax cheque back and order more Cascade >.<
overpriced/unavailable imports = local brewers become complacent again and return to gouging for their diacetyl-laden, infected beers
