Jackpot. TW. $7.00/sixer. 121 Julian dating, which is about may 1st, or 18 days old.

My area seems to rotate it out in 30 day brewed on intervals. It seems to be getting better at least at more highly trafficked places. I couldn't care less who hypes it or likes it. More for me. But I do want to advocate, best beer deal ever given the right circumstances

Citrusly perky and bright with some floral hop hints. That's how I describe it. Easily a 4.5 top tier beer .

2 sixers may not be enough.

To compare freshness, diamond knot just had their ipa in cans release a week or two back. Canned on mid March. By the time it hits shelves, it's 5-6 weeks. Lagunitas is definitely trying harder than others IMHO. The Sn core lineup is still sitting on late january hop hunter to mid February torpedo. I know where my money is going

Stark County, Ohio beckons thee... Of the two stores with a consistently "Sucky" stock (ba doom tiss), I recommed Rt. 62 Butts&Brews. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but once you walk in and see the wares, you'll get it. There's has never disappointed. The Snack Box (another unassuming exterior containing numerous gems) here in Louisville is hit or miss.

I'm going to love being able to get it in the Yucatan.

You'd be much better off with the $10-11 six pack if you're looking for value.

When it's fresh is a good beer, not great. But the fresh part is the issues here, most of these Cali IPAs are low turnover beers. Those who love IPAs buy local , they're fresh and clearly bottle dated. No easy way to date it I don't buy it, I'm not into codes or Julian dates or blind guesses.

Why not hide the codes under the label, don't understand not clearly dating bottles. I just don't buy, tired of the game with some breweries.

Sucks is the same. As always with Lagunitas there's a significant falloff around 6 weeks in the bottle. And the bottle date stamp is gonna give us all glaucoma, but otherwise c'mon it's all good.

I like Sucks about as much as all Lagunitas' heavily-hopped, sticky-sweet, high-abv offerings. I recently had Undercover Shutdown and Lucky 13, as well as Brown Shugga, and I'd probably buy any of those over Sucks. I think they're diluting their own market with similar varieties, making all of them stand out a little less. Actually one I've been revisiting lately is Little Sumpin' Sumpin', and in fact I'd probably buy that over all the ones I mentioned.

Can't find it fresh is the problem. Lagunitas is beer of the month at my local store, so I bought a six for $6.95. Opened one, and it was obviously old. I wasn't familiar with their dating method, so I googled it, and sure enough, three months old.

Every Lagunitas beer I've ever had, has been grossly overrated...I don't think its that the beer has gone downhill, I think most people are finally realizing that they have been a bunch of hype this entire time.

I see the other side of the coin. I find them to be consistently solid with the occasional home run. There is a bit of "house flavor" that weaves its way through their lineup and it can lead to some similarity amongst their hoppy beers. I find that flavor (I find it to be a bit of tart/sweet) appealing though. Others may not.

I mentioned it earlier in the thread, I don't find Sucks has changed all that much if at all. Now, I only had it a couple times when it was brand new, so that could be a factor. I only buy it relatively fresh though, and while I don't love their dating methodology, it does the job. It sounds like many (not all) complaints here have to do with less than fresh bottles. It does sit for a while, but I just strike when fresh shipments see the shelves. That may be only a few times a year, but I do enjoy it at those times.

I feel very similar. The Hopslam/Sucks comparison--which DIPA was your favorite-- was one that generated lots of threads 3-4 years ago--Hopslam usually on the losing side. Funny how both have fallen from grace --Hopslam itself a good 6-7 years ago.

Oh well--wish they would "reboot" it as a seasonal and "bring the magic back." Maybe just once a year, too! Tony's got the recipe.

We are fortunate to have so many good things to choose from.

    Cheers.

I missed Sucks the first year, but was waiting for it the second year. Sculpin hit Texas at the same time and I bought them both on the same trip to the store. Several nights of drinking them in succession told me that I liked Sucks a whole lot more. The Sucks I've had lately have all been much more malty...maybe not as fresh, but I can't imagine that's the only difference. Had a Sculpin this afternoon and it was awesome, for comparison.

I still really like it and would buy it all the time. Unfortunately the freshest around here is 223 5 in a couple of stores.

    No, that's not a typo.

It's not the same, borderline too sweet at best. Really hard to get fresh.
