Known for brewing local craft beer on-site, the bar and restaurant is closing due to an inability to agree on a new lease with its landlord, says head brewer Sean Halpin. The decision was made just last night. “We’re going to just have a big party," said Halpin. “We want to show appreciation to the neighborhood and everyone who supported us over the years, and just make it a positive thing.” In a post on Facebook, the brewery thanks "everyone who's been rocking with us for the past decade,” promising a "full-blown rager" tomorrow for the business' final day. $3 beers will be offered until midnight. “Come snag the best suds around one last time!" the post concludes. While not one of my favorites, I have hung out there a number of times and they're always fine. And sometimes they're exceptional (the OG Brut IPA, for instance). Frankly, there's a number of breweries in SF that I question why they're still in business (Sunset Reservoir, Beach Chalet, Southern Pacific to name a few...), but this is one closure I'm saddened about.
Thanks for posting this. I was never a regular but I always appreciated that they were an option in the area. A decade is a good run. If I remember correctly there was another brewery at the same place, and then a lot of turnover, before Social Kitchen came around.
