QUALITY IS THE KEY. Honestly Societe is doing just fine selling beer, actually they are having a hard time keeping up with demand. So again, the owners have decided that they want to keep their beer fresh as best they can so they chose the growlers they chose. You can accept that price to take their beer home or you can just have some glasses at the brewery either way their beer is good.
Beer snob is a term for someone like us, that spends way too much time on websites instead of volunteering at breweries or actually working while on the internet at work. I am a beer snob.

That $15 adds up when you have to purchase one from each new brewery. The
Key word: LOCAL. But thanks for the snob comment.... If i was local to society or hess, i would pony up the cash for this growler because i know it would be used a lot. But i'm not so i wont, which i would assume would be the stance for a lot of the customers to places like society and hess. I have nothing against hess/society, i was just stating that they are losing business from people like me because of the expensive growler cost. THAT IS ALL.

Wow, nicely done then buddy, insulting people for giving a perfectly valid opinion.

Oh, and by the way, your statement about how many they've sold is meaningless because the question is how many they would have sold if they offered something cheaper. But since you're the kind of guy who apparently thinks offering a reasonable opinion in a reasonable manner is attack, my guess is that you're not smart enough to understand what a counterfactual is.

Whose to say they are selling less beer? We bought 6 growlers worth of beer we normally probably wouldn't have just because of those growlers. I personally don't buy cheap growlers with the crappy tin caps. Whose to say people buying these growlers aren't using them more? Your assumption isn't fact.

I'm not just throwing away money because I'm a baller...far from it. I think the few extra bucks is worth it for the quality of this particular growler and love the products Societe puts out there. Its not like Societe is selling the exact same discount glass growler for $25 that someone else is selling for $5. I value the extra effort and quality of the growler and feel they are priced appropriately.

Last time I checked the Stone growlers weren't exactly cheap either. Aren't their glass ones closer to $15 and their 1L stainless over $20 too?

I'm just tired of coming on BA everyday to see what the complaint of the day is. Not necessarily tied to this thread, but the whining and sense of entitlement in so many other threads is a downer. What happened to supporting good beer and being advocates?

Lets get back to talking about The Pupil and being excited for when their barrel program is ready for a release.

And stupac you are the type of guy not to lay your gueuze on its side. And at no point did I insult anyone, just stating facts like you wanted. People at Societe don't care if people don't want to buy their growlers, they are there for people who do want them is what I was saying. And seeing as how I am a beer snob myself I don't see how its insulting.

I open growlers within hours of purchase. Societe's SS growler offers zero extra freshness or quality in my case. Is it neat? Yeah. So is my money. If I was shipping them across the Country, I'd see your point.

Ballast Point x6 glass growlers: $16.
    Societe: $150

If I got extra freshness or quality, I'd agree. I get nothing for that extra $134. Nothing. Societe is 1 mile from my work. I don't buy growlers in bulk to store them. I buy them to open on weekends when I have friends over. I filled at least 30 growlers of Bad Boy and HB in my 6 growlers last month and had a few get togethers. I can assure you Societe is selling far less beer to people like me.

Are you the official spokesperson? Just curious - if you are and they truly "don't care" about my opinion as a customer I will stop going to them, as well as bringing the many other people I have introduced to them.

I took my mother, her boyfriend, and several friends there over the weekend and spent roughly $150. If the official policy regarding customer input is "fuck you" then yeah - done with them.

Where was that "fuck you" said. I'm just saying if you don't want a growler for $25 than don't buy one.
For Christ's sake this is fucking ridiculous.
The beer is great keep it up societe

Business not caring what their paying customers think = a "fuck you" attitude. Pretty basic.

Am trying to determine if you represent them in any capacity.

How about this - if people don't want to pay $25 - they talk about it and perhaps a change is made? Instead of you trying to shut everyone up?

Going to email them this thread.

I still don't see a fuck you in my quote. If you had read the rest of the sentence you quoted you would see i stated that the growlers are there for people who want them and that was my point.

I have a fancy growler from Hangar 24 with a swing top. I did not pay for it and would not buy one in the future. The real difference for me is that the carbonation is better from the first pour to the last versus the cheaper growlers. Just my .02

You called the people who said that they should offer a lower-priced growler "snobs". That is an insult. You might not find it that way, but if not then you're being ridiculously obtuse.

If you like Societe you should just shut up now, because you are actively driving business away from them, I can guarantee you that. I hope to god you're not affiliated with them, because WORST. SPOKESPERSON. EVER.

I guess I'm lost as to how this went from a discussion about why I love their growlers to me being the worst spokesperson that is driving business away from Societe with my fuck you attitude.
The only thing I have said is why they chose their growlers and how much I like their beers. So again all im saying is if you enjoy their beer, great. If you want a growler, get one. If you don't want one, don't get one. If you're not a beer snob than you would probably not be on beeradvocate, pretty simple. If you want them to carry other growlers, email them and see what they say, simple really.
No I don't represent Societe but I love their beers and if that means I have to leave this ******ed website for good, I would do it and will do it to avoid these debates that become pointless.

Ballast Point dropped their empty growler price from $10 to $4?

The SS Growlers looks great, and nobody in the SD craft scene is going to put up a fuss if they want the beer badly enough. The only Societe beer that really blew me away was The Butcher. Apprentice and Pupil are very drinkable, but there are a few breweries closer to home that are brewing IPA's that are also very drinkable. A fun tasting room, and a great addition to the area. Perfect if you are already headed to Alesmith & Hess. Three very different breweries/ tasting room experiences. You'll get to taste about ten world class beers between those three.

I personally don't care what any brewery decides to use or charge for growlers, they seem pretty pointless and not cost effective no matter who it comes from for CA. Most I've paid is 10 and won't ever do it again.

Because even if the beer reaches hype level status it'll be hard to justify trading their growlers out of state for other things because those growlers will be so expensive if purchased and dispensed in a disposable fashion instead of in a single, frequently re-used fashion?
