Just tasted a few of their brews... if I lived down here, I would just visit societies and alpine every weekend.. alternate each week. IPA capitol of the world!

I would need to revisit again to make sure, but bachelor mosaic might be one of my top 3 ipa's ever.

    Cheers to them brewing more!

I have an unbranded stainless steel Brauler that I purchased online, got filled with a Tired Hands brew, and sent to a buddy in SD. Am I to assume they won't even fill a generic, unbranded growler without any brewery name whatsoever on it? If so, that just absolutely sucks.

Just one of the things that sucks about this place.

Unlike breweries in many other states, California breweries gotta protect their brand. Prole unbranded SS growlers would tarnish their sterling image.

It's totally possible to do here, lots of breweries are dragging their feet on it purposely though. Guess they want to make it harder to sell more beer...

It has nothing to do with protecting the brand, more their license. California has aweful growler laws that up until recently stated that growlers needed to be branded and labeled according to ABC regulations. Now you can use blank growlers with an ABC approved label, this change is still being interpreted by ABC and many breweries, including Societe, are waiting to hear back from ABC for label approval. When I asked Societe the response was that they just needed their label approved and then they will be filling flip tops with good seals and no twist top growlers in order to preserve their beer.
    Hope that helps.

It's not CA in this case, it's the breweries

    The law did not change.

It also has EVERYTHING to do with branding. Read Russian River's latest blog.

Correct, law didn't change, however interpretation by ABC of said law did change.

Can some one give me a guesstimate taxi fare from Societe to La Jolla, Gas Lamp, and North Park? These would be direct fares not La Jolla to Gas Lamp etc...

Round trip from La Jolla to any of those locales - probably about 50 bucks.

i know, i know.. I'm just sayin.. regardless of the reason, generic growlers do not get filled here (for the most part).

on a positive note, the dudes at Societe said their labels are currently in the process of getting approved. They took a look at my growler and said that they would be able to fill it once labels are approved. I will be heading down there once they get it.

No way to know for sure really. Unless of course, you go to one of those hundreds of cab fare websites and find out exactly, but that's no fun.
