for you and anyone else looking for cab rides I know of new company that just opened in San Diego. It is not a true cab company, but individuals are hired to drive you with their own cars. My neighbor (and fellow BA) has started doing it in his free time and it seems like a cool and less expensive option (typically 30% less than cabs, all payment is a "donation", no set/required amount). The company is called Lyft

Sounds like a good way to get robbed.

In order to become a driver for lyft you have to go through a DMV and background check.

like grandmachine stated, you have to be interviewed and screened before you can become a driver. Plus, it is 100% phone app based (both for drivers and users). So it would not be too hard to trace back to the culprit. I think I am going to use them this weekend for a trip up to Societe. Making sure I don't drink too much is always my only problem with Societe.

FYI, LA has just recently banned these types of "taxi" services and claims several reasons. Hope you guys take advantage of it now cause SD may follow suit.

Does anyone know if they allow kids in their taproom? We're coming to San Diego next week and I'm hoping to stop in at some point.

This was recently asked, and just about every brewery in San Diego (including Societe) has no problem with well behaved children in their tasting room. Societe has a lot of space, so it's even less of a deal there.

why am i not shocked. Sounds like the city wants the licensing fees and the few large cab companies don't want to be replaced with cheaper options.

“Not only are these high-tech bandit cabs unsafe, they are breaking regulatory standards and disenfranchising safe, legal taxi drivers.”

Yeah, safe driving, that is what I always think of when i see cabs cutting people off and never using a turn signal. I have no problem using a taxi, but I also like the idea of freedom of choice.

Uber is also a good option and (relatively) new to SD.

I need to try them out, I got received some free credit to use with them but I still have not tried them out. Maybe that will be another weekend trip to a brewery.

BTW, Scrimmie (Scrimmy?) can go in the tasting room now – they amended their lease to allow dogs.

yes!!!! I thought it was weird that Societe was the only place he wasn't allowed. Well though i was just informed a couple weeks ago that dogs are not allowed in the Bruery Tasting room, which is weird since I have probably have brought him in a half dozen times before and I have seen other dogs there before.

Looks like Joey and I will have to bring Oscar and Scrimshaw along this weekend

I was there maybe 3 weeks ago, and they had some sort of Dachshund rescue event going on - 3 or 4 of them in an area set up in the back of the tasting room. I'm guessing the change must have happened before that.

Not sure when the change happened. I almost went to a dog fundraising event about a month or two ago, but they said dogs were not allowed, which seemed weird.

All of the Uber cars I've been in have been new-ish and clean and the drivers have been friendly. As a plus, they round your fare down (you would be charged $11.00 for a $11.49 ride) and email you a complete summary of your trip. There is also no hassling with cash vs. credit card or tips. However, my first driver didn't know where Petco was...so they are definitely new.

Their cars also have to have a giant pink mustache on the front of the car (no, I'm not kidding). I would say you're as likely to get robbed in a real cab.

I would rather a tasting room be littered with hyper dogs than ******* screaming kids
