That's what I meant by "relatively." That was more in reference to recent online sales where things have sold out nearly instantaneously. I figured someone would take issue with that term, so I had hoped to mitigate that by parenthetically including "relatively," but oh well. It sold out (relatively) quickly, I guess.

Either way, I look forward to trying it

I think Societe really has more of a Russian River type business model. They aren't really concerned about becoming a huge brewery. They are very happy with their space and one has to respect it. If you look at what they sell there is no Mango IPA or Barrel Aged The Butcher and that's after 4 years. If someone had asked me when Societe and Modern times opened that Modern Times would probably sell 20 times as much beer as Societe I would have said you were crazy.

To be clear, I wasn't making any sort of value judgment when commenting on how briskly/sluggishly their bottles sold. It was simply an observation. I feel like we've become accustomed to "F5ing" for every new online bottle sale (obviously not every online sale, but I speak to a larger trend that I perceive), so I expressed some (perhaps misguided) surprise that this didn't sell faster. I don't think it all it makes them inferior or subpar. Societe is a stellar business, and I respect the hell out of them (and love drinking their beer).

    Cheers.

The Sunday release might have something to do with it. Another mentioned it on the thread, but I thought the sale was Monday as well

I'm keeping my bottles so this is only because I'm intrigued. Does anyone have an exact bottle count between Anniversary sales and the eventbrite sale.

Picked up the bottles. Would have attracted more neckbeards if they remembered to mention it was bottled under cork and cage.

I think it's crazy and funny that these sat for any amount of time. If Societe tried to hype it at all I feel like it would have sold quicker. I mean, a blend of 1-4 years old barrels... sounds familiar to some other hyper monsters. Also, it's fantastic, super complex. I got 2 at the anniversary and 2 at the online sale, Can't wait to try the 3 I have left over the coming years.

Yeah. Saw they had Malingerer on sale last Saturday when I was picking up my Swindler bottles. The bartender only mentioned gluten free...made no mention of raspberries.

Haha, I got there sat morning less than 5 minutes later and they said they had just sold the last one, curse your friend!

Similar experience - picked up my bottles and saw the Malingerer on the chalk board. 1 bottle limit, no description other than a sour. Asked for a bit of detail and was just told it was a "gluten free sour." Took a chance on it ($20 for 500 ml) as I have *rarely* been disappointed in a Societe product - only found out it was wine barrel aged w/ raspberries from the label on the walk out.

    edit: for terrible typo

I believe they entered it into this year's GABF for the gluten-free or sorghum category. I also believe that in order for a beer to be judged, it had to be made available to the public, hence the bottle sale (correct me if I am wrong).

I second this and also wonder why they're not promoting these more. These are some possible reasons I thought of:

    1. They think all their bottles will sell regardless of marketing.
    2. They don't believe these beers are good enough to market hard lest they don't live up to expectations and people bash them on the internet.
    3. They don't care about making more money.
    4. They don't know how to make more money.

Not even trying to be snarky here. Why else wouldn't they do it?

If the beer sells eventually it really doesn't matter. Just look at their record the last 4 years. They could easily make money canning their IPA's and they choose not too. Your #2 is just moronic by the way. I don't know any of them but I get the sense they don't give a rip about what people say about them.

Hoping for Butcher. I would love to see Pupil but would hate to see it sit on shelves. At least with Butcher it can sit there for a little bit.
