    Hi guys-

I have been using Hopville for a few years and I really like their software for brew day but it pretty much leaves me flat after that. It seems their calculator works fairly well, IBU and color are spot on, all that. I'm about to get an Ipad and kinda thought it would be fun to turn it into a brewing tool.

So, question- What software do Y'all use for recipes, cellar management, notes on beers, all that jazz? Are any of the pay ones any better than the free online services?

    Joe

Spreadsheets. The nice thing is that if there is a bug, I can fix it. I played around with some of the available programs a while back, and at the time there were too many things I didn't like, not to mention things that I felt were simply wrong.

    Did you build it yourself?

I've been using Beersmith, but I'd like to use something more dynamic. Don't like how fields (strike water volume, grain weight, etc) aren't linked through.

Yeah, I'm interested in an excel based spreadsheet but I'm too lazy to build one correctly

Yes. But the one thing I wish I had done differently would have been to parameterize the brewing system values. Instead, I used a lot of constants (based on my system) in lovely run-on formulae. Basically, my sheets are almost useless to anyone not brewing on my system.

It did take some time to build, but most of the basic formulae are out there somehwere, and you can devise the ones that aren't (using common sense).
