I don't want to go down a legal rabbit hole here, but I see a pretty clear distinction between Solar Abyss and The Abyss.

Anyone else thinks this stuff falls off a HUGE cliff? I picked up some cans from WF yesterday, and I notice a significant difference. Those mosaic hops don't shine through as much, and it's a lot more bitter.

    for me no,

Actually when pulling up my notes from the last time I had it on tap quite sometime ago, I was struck by how similar it was and how I remembered it.

I just brought home a four pack from Rodman's and 2 of the four cans are noticeably leaking, and testing the other two now. :slight_frown:
Did make my fridge smell wonderfully hoppy though!

^Good luck trying to get DC Brau to acknowledge the problem. They'll probably tell you everything is perfect on their end.

Actually, they said if I brought the leaking cans by they would refund the cost. They don't have any to replace it with so its as good as it gets.

The likelihood of confusion is slim. They did the easier thing and rolled over, but probably didn't have to.

right..even if they did have more, you'd still have to take the bad ones to the brewery

I agree. I've had several cans of Solar Abyss and I have several bottles of Abyss. Never made the connection, and I've never heard anyone make the connection in conversation or on BA. As noted by @Jeisen08, rolling over is far easier as Deschutes is a much, much larger brewery and probably has $$$ to throw at a trademark suit if they feel one of their signature beers is threatened. I think DC Brau would ultimately win such a lawsuit, but they might have to spend $200k in legal fees to get to that point. Doubt they have it, and I don't think it's worth it for them.
