Just did a quick road trip/beer haul by myself this past weekend. Major con was not having another driver for when I got a bit tired. Stopped at a rest stop for a bit to help with that.

Pro was able to quickly change my plan. I originally planned to stay in Maine and visit more breweries up there. But the Dinner release went so quickly and smoothly, I was able to head out a bit early and get home early. Also did a not planned stop to another brewery for a trade, also enjoyed a taste and bought a 4 pk. Now if I only knew Lord Hobo was opening, I would have stopped there too!

Awesome. Love doing it solo. However going with @hophound was the best.

I've done both. Solo trips are nice in that you can come and go as you feel, and it lends itself to being spontaneous. You may end up at a brewery or bar on a whim. The downside is that you have to be careful with your intake if you are driving, as you have nobody to hand the keys off to. There's also the fun of a shared experience in finding great craft beer spots.

Different strokes; either way works well and if you like adventuring alone, solo trips are a blast for those who prepare.

Never done a beercation let alone a solo one. But the bolt bus between Portland and Seattle is a good idea, it's only like 3 hours. But if you have a car you can hit some of the breweries off the beaten path ie Pelican. I would also say Air BnB it. In Portland, chances are whoever you stay with will be happy to grab some beers with you! Have fun!

Never done a solo beercation, but I would think it would not be much fun to go solo. My favorite part about craft beer is sharing the experience with good friends.

I'm doing this in August! Plan to wander around the city riding the L, going from brewery to record store to awesome food place.

I'd love to do this but I'd be solo when I got home too, wife would toss me out.:slight_frown: I do travel for work so I get to try new stuff around the country, but I would really like to go somewhere solo where I could just enjoy the beer scene and not have to worry if my better half was having a good time. It would have to be where I could walk or short cab rides though.

Went to Vermont alone a few weeks ago. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Nice. Isn't I, Robot the one where Will Smith saves the world at the end?

Yeah, that's the one; the one that was pretty much a scene-for-scene reconstruction of the Asimov novel.

You haven't lived until you've seen it on mute and in subtitles, at a bar, guzzling water, praying for sobriety.

Jeez, every vacation I've been on in the past 10 years has been with the assistance of BA.
Best one was four years ago: PDX, Central OR, Crater Lake NP, and back North up the Coast.
Spent the first two days at Mcmenamins Edgefield-priceless!

I almost ended up going to Munich alone, was just going to rent a bicycle and ride from beer garden to beer garden but ended up getting two buddies to go. I would do it if I had to, but not close to ideal for me.

I had to do this too when I was stationed in Germany with the Army. Every once in a while the ass-hats I hung out with wanted to go to the NCO club and drink Miller Lite, so I'd wander into town by myself for a hefeweizen or the like. Seriously, Miller Lite...

    Jimmy Fallon style:

Pro: Uber drivers will be your best friends.
Con: Those are some expensive best friends.

Pro: There is no one to hold you back from where you want to go.
Con: There is no one to hold you up when you need to go.

Pro: You will enjoy a ton of amazing beer.
    Con: Maybe even twice...

Sorry folks... that's the best I've got in the 2 minutes and 15 seconds I put into this.

    Great suggestion.

@SoCaliC8 This is a great Beer spot to check out for a weekend. And if you're solo the people are so nice in ABQ to drink with. Probably the friendliest place Ive drank alone, next to Texas. Check the local ABQ forums, but La Cumbre, Marble, Canteen, and Santa Fe are super fun spots. Also if you like the outdoors, there is tons to do there(especially if you make that short run to Santa Fe) its gorgeous there.

I'm up in Seattle, definitely message us locals for some fun. Pros of the trip have mostly been stated already: change on a dime, no compromise, and easier to travel overall. Cons of course are no friend to share the experience with, covering all costs yourself, without good transit can be dangerous too.

Overall I'd go for hit. Pace yourself, eat and drink water regularly, wear sunscreen if sitting on the open patios. Also, don't root for any Portland team :stuck_out_tongue:

Have not specifically traveled solo for a beer sightseeing trip, but I love to make all my business travel into mini beercations. Heading to Albuquerque tomorrow and can hit La Cumbre and Marble. Another trip to St. Paul in August right near Surly.

This always makes business travel fun!
