http://hoodline.com/2015/06/method-brewing-blends-science-with-beer Two new breweries this summer! Local, which just opened and now Method is coming in August Honestly, there's a chance that both of these new breweries end up not being very good, but I am certainly not going to write them off while they're still getting it together like I did with Cellarmaker early on. If nothing else maybe Cellarmaker won't be hella crowded every second that it is open now that there are other breweries nearby.
Cool! The more, the merrier! I plan to hit Cellarmaker in August and will possibly check out Local and Method if open...
We're also supposed to get Black Hammer some time this year - it's across Bryant from my office. But I haven't seen any fermenters on there, so it's definitely behind the forecast from 7x7 (http://www.7x7.com/eat-drink/9-new-breweries-coming-sf-2015)
Thanks for the link. Hadn't seen that article. I live in Central Richmond, so none of these are going in my hood, but I spend a lot of time in SoMa. Still need to hit up that newish Sunset place.
Local is alright, and I'm not dissing them. It's a fun place to check out for sure, but it's not a Cellarmaker. All the beers seem clean but I would say going more for balance/drinkability and trying to win over non-craft types than a brewery for beer geeks. I liked a couple beers in my flight quite a bit, and maybe they'll do some more interesting beers in the future.
First time I went to Cellarmaker, I had three beers and two of them were outright bad. They had several fruit beers on and none of them worked IMO. I will concede to your point about Local seeming to be going for approachability more than the beer geek crowd, but I would give them at least six months to get it together if not more.
I ordered a flight a few weeks after they first opened. Can't say I remember a damn one of them. But boy have they dialed in their strengths nowadays.
Went to Local last night, had a flight. All of the beers were very drinkable, minus the IRA which was a diacetyl bomb. I didnt get a chance to try the SF Lager (CA Common), but that seemed to be popular with the other customers. I think my favorites were the Glen Park IPA (not a crazy hop bomb but more on the border between APA/IPA with a nice citrus-forward character) and the Boomtown Brown, a classic English-style Brown (thought it maybe could have used a touch more toasted malt, but otherwise very good for the style). I like that they are doing approachable stuff, and look forward to trying them again soon. The space is cool too. Overall they kind of reminded me of Eagle Rock, a brewery which I love and feel like doesnt get enough respect in LA (because they do more sessionable styles).
