Well I will be down in St Louis on Feb 28th for the Blues vs Hawks game. Im taking the Amtrak down there and staying at a hotel within walking distance. Anyways, I was wondering if there was any good breweries I should make my way down to in my 2 days there that are within a cheap cab ride or less away. Also would like some good recommendations on some readily available beers that are from St Louis area (you know, beers I cant get here in Chicago, but can maybe find at alot of liquor stores it St Louis.) Thanks!
Depending on where you are staying, Schlafly and Four Hands may be within walking distance. Both are good. Morgan Street is also probably within walking distance. Their beers are decent, but they get little or no hype in the area. Urban Chestnut, Six Row and Buffalo are all short cab rides. The best thing about Buffalo is that it's in the same building as Pappy's BBQ (was on Man vs. Food). Perennial and Civil Life would be farther, but not all that far. If you have time, the AB Brewery Tour is worth doing. Go Blues!
Not a brewery, but based on where you're staying if you want to try a lot of local beers, walk to Bailey's Range for lunch or dinner one night. Awesome burgers and minus one rotating out of town tap, all the taps are local. Small pours are available if you want to try a few beers. Go Blues!
Definitely recommend 4 Hands and Perennial if you have time. Like the poster above me stated, Range has a very good selection of local beers on tap. Bridge is also a place I recommend. They always have a very good tap list. If you get a chance to stop by any liquor stores, there should be plenty of beers available from Perennial, 4 Hands, 2nd Shift and Urban Chestnut. You can't really go wrong with any of them. Cheers, Ryan
It should also be mentioned that The Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton is steps from a MetroLink stop so while it's not downtown it's easily accessible. You won't be disappointed if you go there.
Feb 28 is my bday, so u should probably buy me some beer. But from my personal experience, Perennial is #1, though it is kinda in a janky ass area. Followed, of course by Schlafly, and 4 hands if you get time. Make sure and stop somewhere on The Hill and get some homemade pasta, not to far from ur metro stop. Wine and cheese in Clayton is the best as far as fresh beers, but Friar Tucks in Fenton has by far the largest selection, and some really hard to find stuff if u look. I will say though that Itap in soulard is definitely worth the stop. It's like a beer geeks wet dream in there.
Go Blues! I don't think I've ever heard of Buffalo Brewing in StL, there webpage is not great, I'm guessing no Twitter too?
Just had the Urban Chestnut IPA last night and it was very good. Taking some back home to Caliifornia. Cheers.....
