On one hand, that's pretty high for Old Stock. I generally pay ~$11-12 for a four-pack

On the other, this beer ages great (last summer I had a 2008 that was just amazing), and I'm sure it will be fantastic.

Oh, it's the store I'm a beer buyer for. It's not for sale, although it may go in a free tasting at some point. We only have the one, haha.

I recently did a '06 '10 '13 vert. That stuff just keeps getting better! I'd feel like I was getting gouged, but I'd probably pay double that if I came across it. In other words, buy it!

I just wanted to post an update: I acquired a four-pack, drank one, and cellared the other three. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the one I drank. What a great beer. Kind of reminds me of certain quads I've had.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the great Old Stock talk here which encouraged me to go for it!

If it was stored in a cellar, it is not good it is freaking fabulous. I opened and shared a bottle of old stock from 2000 back in March and I was in love with how it has aged. Granted, old Stock is probably my favorite old ale so I might be biased. But seriously, it was amazing. Caramel and raisony deliciousness. My mouth is salivating just thinking about it.

Wow. I have had a mixed emotions on my Old Stocks. We recenetly had a 2007 to 2013 vert which was anything but stellar. Plenty of thinning, cardboard.....and all of my stuff sits in a cellar at 60 degrees year round.

I personally love NC Old Stock! So much so that I got lucky and found a guy clearing his cellar and nabbed these from him with a little help from a new friend!

I've never even heard of barrel aged Old Stock. Anybody care to chime in?

I have a 4-pack of 2011 Old Stock and I popped one last Thursday. It was damn tasty.

The newer 2009 vintage bourbon version (the one bottle in that picture that isn't like the others) was a shelf beer that sat around for ages due to a $23 or so price tag. I can't speak for the older bourbon or brandy variants.

I still see it on shelfs around me. Lowered to 20 a bottle.

Light exposure is a concern with store-aged beer for me (probably the biggest one), more so than shelf temp. I had the chance to buy some 09.09.09 last month and only grabbed one. Instantly regretted it at the checkout at only $7 or $8 a bottle... Two days later the rest were gone. Oh well. I suppose that was medium/high risk (not knowing how they were stored), high reward.
I see $18/4pk as potentially high initial investment, but also high reward. Glad to hear you went for it and did this: :grinning:

Can any other BA's chime in on the store storage:light topic?

The two in the far back are 05 barrel-aged old stock. They did a bourbon and brandy version, both were released in 07, brewery only.
