I just don't understand. Someone made a post for dark arts IP Atlanta trade on reddit. I said I had some heady and otwoa. He was interested. Asked how old. Both canned within the last two weeks or so. Told me he doesn't want to trade his beer for "older IPAs"

If two weeks is too old I might be done trading.

This just annoys me so much. How do y'all feel about this point?

two weeks? too old? Jesus....most beer does not make it from the brewery, to the distrubtor, and then out on store shelves within two weeks. Anything under a month should still be considered extremely fresh.

Honestly, I thought I was doing a favor offering the most wanted beer in the world to someone local - and for them to scoff at the date? I just don't understand. I feel that is something that is bred on here, and individuals don't even know any better nor do they know what they're talking about. A 3-4 month old IPA is older, 2 weeks!?

Are you around Decatur by chance? (full disclosure, I'm a slave to MARTA without a car)

I don't mind hooking up a GA buddy if you are still looking for a bottle of Dark Arts. BM me if so.

btw who scoffs at 2 week old heady. Seriously? Are you supposed to get them a direct line to the canning belt?

I only drink IPA's before the carbonation stage, otherwise it's a drain pour. I had day old heady once and it was so terrible that vom'd and had to wash my mouth out with DB Huna.

well considering that there was a thread in the beer talk section where everyone piled on someone for drinking a 3 month old double trouble, I would say yes this board does indeed foster that type of mentality. fresh is teh rarez of hops.

Ignorance is bliss. I'd still take a 20,160 minute old Heady (hey...who's counting though).

So, does the bottling/canning date really reflect the age of the brew? When it's done, do the breweries continue to bottle until the whole tank is empty or do they run several pallets and change to a different beer and so on to fill a particular order.
I often wonder if two week old IPA is really fresher than three or four week old from the same brewery.

The person that thinks a 2 week "old" IPA is beneath his standards probably has lots of problems not beer related. I was at a bar the other day sitting next to this guy who asked which Wicked Weed was on tap. He was told it was their gluten free IPA to which I replied that it was not only very good, but the best gluten free beer that I have tried. He said that it couldn't be good and that it was a waste of time. This fellow was about 24 or so and so utterly obnoxious, and it's obvious that he hates himself and the world. I did not dignify his remarks with a comment. He suffers enough being him.

I only drink my beer from the kettle at the brewery while hot, if it makes it to the can, i drain it.

I've had customers say that about shelf beers, like Port Wipeout, that were 'old'. Old being three weeks. Figuring in the typical transport time, pus bottling, warehousing, ordering, etc., there will never be a Port IPA on any shelf younger than two weeks on the East Coast. I didn't even try to explain that to him though, as he clearly had a source for fresher Port, like a direct line to his vein straight from CA.
