Petrus comes up often because it's available everywhere and only cost $9 per 750ml. It's a good introduction to sour beers. It isn't complex, but it is definitely sour and tasty. Crooked Stave might make good sours, but it isn't available to 95% of the country.

I know this is soooo wrong, but I chug sour beer! So much fun going on and the tart lactic side just makes me smile. I'm with you. I can hardly save them past a week and gulp slurp lick, they are gone.

That's right! I see way too many spikey-haired bros wearing Ed Hardy shirts who can't get enough IPAs because Maxim magazine said Dawgfish 90 is the best beer on the planet. Therefore, IPAs are off limits and sours are where it's at.

Sour beers may never catch on with the Jersey Shore crowd. This is the main reason why I drank sour beer before you ever heard of them.

I LOVE sours, but I can't drink more than one or two of them.

I'm completely addicted to the sours, the only things I have not loved have been some of the funkiest geuezes. Although all of the ones I considered too funky, are fabulous blended with something a little bit fruity.

poppycock my friend! I have been drinking sour belgians for years. It just so happens that sours are becoming more popular with american craft brewers and more widely available so there is a lot more variety. I highly doubt anyone would drink sour beer if they hated it ( and many do, i seem to have been told.. "doesn't that resemble vinegar!" quite a bit).

    You're not.
I enjoy a sour every now and then, but I dont get the obsession with them. A Cuvee Rene once every 3 months or so cures any desire for a sour that might come about.

I would think sour beer would be a hard beer to pretend you liked and actually sip equally with people that really do. As a child I loved sour food and candy. My best friend was hispanic and would always give me a bunch of tamarind/chilli candies in the form of pastes, bars and the pelon rico ones that pushed up. My chef, who is indian instantly fell in love with sours as they eat a lot of sour foods also. I have gotten a little sore in my mouth from drinking them too many nights in a row though.

I know sours can put a hurting on some people's stomachs also. A couple buddies have to stop after a couple glasses or it starts to do some damage.

Absolutely true. I used to live in Brussels and then I've decided to try the Cantillon 100% Gueuze that I've found in the supermarket (yes, in Brussels that happens!). Back home, I've drunk it and it was so sour for me at that time that I could not finish and I seriously thought about going back to the supermarket and tell them that it was not proper... Today, many Lambics after, I cannot get rid off them anymore...

I saw a TV documentary that featured a guy who was "addicted" to drinking vinegar. He drank another 7 cups a day, various types, sometimes a vinegar soup with pasta in it. I thought, this guy should NOT ever try a lambic, he'd eat away his esophogus and become an alcoholic.

I'm in the same boat. If I could drink sours all day, I would. And my bank account would suffer much more than it already does.

Or, in other words, why drink one dimensional examples of a beer when you can put a little time and effort into finding a great or even an exceptional example of the style?

The Pale or the Bruin? Bruin is no bueno. If you don't like the Pale, maybe it's just not expensive enough or too easy to find to be cool, but it's a great beer.

Weyerbacher Riserva is by far the most sour beer I have ever had. It was drinkable...but wow. This years batch is about to be released. Seek it out.

I'm right there with ya...ruined for other beer for a year after my first sour. Had some sort of gueuze or lambic at an anniversary party for Breckenridge Brewery. Had no idea what it was. Took me another year trying every sour beer to find the style. Now I have a cellar full.
