The "hype" bacteria has been a key ingredient in beer for hundreds of years and lactobacillus and some its bacteria brothers are responsible for keeping your body in decent condition.

If you enjoy kambucha tea try Lambucha. Its a sour beer brewed with kambucha.

When I want to go a few days or weeks without beer (health, girlfriend, work, family, extreme hangover, there are a variety of reasons..) I find a nice sparkling water (Gerolsteiner, San. Pell., or Blue Italy) mixed with lemon juice and a nicer balsamic vinegar in varying ratios can make a damn good substitute with very few calories. That being said, I have never experienced a beer more sour that Bear Republic Tartare Berliner Weiss, tooth-achingly sour and delicious.

I am head over heels in love with sours/ lambics. Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen, De Cam, Lost Abbey, Russian River are some favorites.

Also, had a strawberry kombucha today that was fabulous. Kombucha is like a non-alcoholic sour, and it even happens to be healthy!

I think I have had all (certainly most) of Cascade's sour lineup. All solid beers, with a couple that were fabulous, in my opinion. Good sours and lambics are just plain expensive. Get out while there's still time.

I was JUST at Cascade Brewery... great sour selection... I walked out with a bottle of their blueberry, and it wasn't too $$... 750 ml in a corked bottle for $20

Never been there, but I'd like to go. I have a couple bottles of the Blueberry. I'll likely open one soon.

They're good but not good enough to justify the $$. Special occasions only.

Petrus aged pale is a fine example of a sour beer, get off your high horse 2012. Crooked Stave makes Persica and all of a sudden they're the new Russian River, no.

I can't stand petrus pale. The swill almost drove me away from sours and wilds all together.
And you know I'm a homer.

Not to be coy or to deny said assumption, but it also may be a reference to a very strong stream.

I'm well aware there are many quality people in Jersey who don't have spikey hair and wear Ed Hardy T-shirts and don't mean to disrespect your state as a whole. However, the Situation and Snooky didn't do your state any favors in the context of popular culture.

You can make fun of IL and it won't bother me at all. Cheers!

Looks like I'm the closest one that is interested in sours.

I am just beginning, but I have had the Rodenbach Classic and loved it. I was already a devout Kombucha enthusiast (the best by far is GTS Kombucha), as well as Kefir, Lassi, and Kvass. Not really a good selection of sours/wild ales that I have seen in MD. I might not know where to look, because I am new to companies that make a good sour, so I don't really know what to look for (that is also available in MD).

So what all styles fall into the sour category or are at least a bit sour? So far, I have: Sours, Lambics, Flemish Reds and Sour Browns. Also, there is American Wild Ale and Berliner Weisse. Aren't their also sour blondes?

Anything can be soured with proper additions of bacteria. Jolly Pumpkin basically has a sour version of everything, and the stout is amazing. Take a look at Anchorage Brewing as well. Awesome stuff coming from them.
