So I got tickets to the sour barn bash and am planning on stayingin chapel hill that weekend. Any one else attending? Also was wondering if there were any breweries to definitely hit up in the chapel hill area (if so what beers to try)

Yesteryear and Steel String (both in Carrboro right next door) are good. Chapel Hill only has Carolina Brewery and Top of the Hill, both a skippable. Your best bet is going to Durham or Raleigh. and there is really no way to go wrong with any of the breweries there. My favorite in durham is Fullsteam and in Raleigh its a toss up between Trophy or Crank Arm.

A little out of town but worth the drive is Haw River Farmhouse Ales. Cool place, great beers.

    I hope this helps.
    Cheers

Haw River in beautiful Mebane is just 15 miles from Chapel Hill. It's definitely worth a trip, as they're doing some pretty unique things there and there's a great little butcher shop and 2 restaurants.

In Chapel Hill, Beer Study is a must. It's one of the best craft beer spots in the state. Sam's in Durham has more inventory, but an unwelcoming atmosphere. The Baxter next door is a bar-Cade, vintage video games in a bar. Al's Burgers has mighty fine burgers & dogs. All three are on Graham St.
Steel string is putting on the sour bash or they'd be on the 'must do' list as well.

Haw River is in Saxapahaw. Nothing is in Mebane.

Awesome, this definitely helped. Probably going to venture out to haw river, seems like one to definitely make a stop at. I've had a decent amount from fullsteam, do they usually have some small batch stuff or BA stuff at the brewery?

They usually have some interesting stuff on that they don't bottle - check http://www.fullsteam.ag/brewery-tavern/on-tap/ for the current offerings. They've got a few BA beers on tap right now, not sure what it will be like in February.

    Oh hai there!

    February fun stuff will include...

    • Brandy Barrel-Aged First Frost
    • Coffee is for Closers
    • Port-barrel-aged Lampshade barleywine
    • Common Good, our Kentucky Common
    • Neil deBrux Tyson (Rocket Science IPA recipe brewed with the Brux Brett Trois yeast)
    Okay but enough about us

    hope you see you then!

Another vote for Beer Study (unless you are allergic to dogs). You'll find better inventory elsewhere, but the atmosphere is great and the tap list is always pretty good. The owner and employees are top notch as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! Beer study seems mine my style so I'll definitely have to check it out

Of course, you're right. I wrote "Mebane" but when I meant "Saxapahaw". The major attraction in Mebane is the outlet mall, which could be just the thing for a wife who doesn't want to spend all day at a brewpub. Thanks for correcting me.

I drive by Yesteryear regularly on my way to Beer Study. I still haven't tried any of their beer.

Yesteryear has a fun atmosphere, especially their Wednesday trivia, and then usually have a decent guest tap list. I've tried three of their own beers, an IPA, a peppermint stout, and a black IPA. The IPA didn't wow me but I think it was one of their first production batches so they may not have had everything dialed in the way they want. The other two aren't styles that I typically enjoy so I'm reserving judgment on their own stuff until I try more.

I'm heading down from Richmond, VA and I'm pretty pumped. Hopefully Hardywood will be bringing down some tasty beverages so you can have a taste of my hometown. Either way, I'm excited to try a lot of new beer.

I'm planning on hitting up Beer Study as well and maybe Brixx or Tyler's since those are close to where I'll be staying, but does anyone have recommendations for bottle shops? Cheers!

Beer Study has a consistently great bottle selection. There's also Carrboro Beverage Company which is right next to Tyler's. Since you're coming from Virginia Sam's Quik Stop in Durham wouldn't be out of your way and probably has the best selection in the triangle.

Saw today on the page for the event that there will be a host the brewers party Friday at 5. Just thought I'd pass that along
