Whereabouts in MX are you at?

Come to San Diego and I'll save you a Rare Barrel.

Rare Barrel (various) and Cuddlebug from Smog City are my favorite sours.

On the Belgian end, I really like Hanssens Artisinaal Oude Gueze. It's super funky and very sour. You really have to like funk.

They're certainly pricey, but most are worth the price in my opinion. I live in Portland, so I'm fortunate enough to try many on tap before buying bottles. Sang Noir, Sang Royal, and Kriek are absolutely worth the bottle price.

Although I prefer other styles of "sours", the Anderson Valley goses (2) are both very approachable for many.

Plain old Rodenbach is a good starter as well, and usually available at places like Total Wine.

3F is funkier. But he's been drinking beer a long time, I'm sure he can handle it!

Perhaps it was the ages I had them at? I had Hanssens Gueuze pretty fresh and it was hugely funky as well as being pretty acidic. The Golden Blend, while still very funky, was a little more balanced. The Hanssens was more battery acid, the 3F was more blue cheese.

You want to produce "sours" commercially and you haven't even tasted one before? Why? And since you're a brewer/homebrewer, I guess it goes to show that you're at least fastidious about sanitary brewing, as you haven't had a lacto or pedio infection yet.

I´m willing to try anything I can get, to understand the whole style and be able to reproduce some.

Thanks, I´ll have that in mind. I really love trying different beers, some I like, some I really like, right now I´m not a fan of smoked beer, but I try every one I can get too, maybe they´ll grow on me. cheers!

The Boulevard Brewing company makes GREAT sours! They just had their launch in Canada in the spring, and I was privileged to be able to try them!

I've opened one of my Tart of Darkness bottles, and I have to say that sour cherries was the predominant thing my mind kept coming back to. Of course, I have the new vintage, so it should be left alone for a bit still.

Anything by Drie Fonteinen, Tilquin, or a Girardin Gueuze. These should be available somewhere in the area you're visiting.

edit: all Belgian. Look in the Belgian section of a larger beer store or excellent beer bar, and one of these breweries should be there.

I don't think anyone will argue much that Russian River has some of the best AWAs, period. It's been a couple of years, but I ran them down on a trip to CA using the distributor link from RR's webpage (Stone handles their distribution in SoCal)--plenty of locations to check in the San Diego area. http://russianriverbrewing.com/southern-california-distributor/
