I've got to second this. I had a sip of one on Saturday. It's a truly outstanding beer, the friend who ordered it, who recently took a beer pilgrimage to Belgium, called it one of the best sours he's ever had.

So far I've been extremely impressed with Fair State. Haven't tried this one yet, but I definitely will. After all, they're now the closest taproom to my house.

    Pardon the self quote.
The beer is ok. Like a Flanders Oud Bruin with the use of dark malt. Could of used more time in the barrels. The lacto is there to give sourness. The brett is not noticeable. Not sure if it is worth picking up another bottle and let it age.

Picked up a Rodenbach Caractere Rouge locally. It was sublime.

Where were you able to secure one of those? Very interested in getting a few of those.

Cassanova's in Hudson has gotten some good stuff in recently. They have had DeStihl stuff on tap the past couple times I've been there; they make pretty solid sours. As much as if like to hoard all of it for myself, I have to echo the sentiment on Charactere Rouge- it is fantastic!

I had Rouge at WTWBA and thought it was good, but not $20-25 good. Id much rather have a Hanssens OG, or 2 Cuvee Rene. Thats just me though.

I went to Merwin's in Falcon Heights yesterday. They still had quite a few Surly Pentagrams on the shelf ($19.99).

I wanted to resurrect this thread rather than start a new just to see if there are any new ones out there lately.

I had läctobäc 1 and 2 with 2 being much better (IMO) but neither being as good as funkel weizen. Both very good none the less.

Brau brothers is delivering their third sour release this week. Bog and barrel is brewed with cranberries and aged in oak barrels. I only had their second sour (test positive) and it was pretty OK, but not good enough for me to go out and buy another bottle. I am looking forward to trying this one.

Schell's keeps putting out great sours but there are numerous threads here about them.

Maybe the biggest surprise for me is how much I enjoy lucid goslar. I hadn't been a huge fan of lucid, and this may not be pentagram, but it a nice tart for half the price of most others.

Anyone else find anything good locally I should look for?

This is tough to answer because a lot of beers labeled as sour use the wild yeast Brettanomyces (which produces funkiness and perhaps tartness but not true sourness) but not bacteria like Lactobacillus and Pediococcus that produce actual sour flavors. I suspect this is true of the "sour" versions of Harriet's Divine Ocolust and Saison Nourrice, Schram's Brett & Barrel Sour Saison, and Excelsior's Whiskey Sour. I know Dave's BrewFarm often has something funky on tap, but I don't know if he uses any souring bacteria (perhaps he can chime in).

Bank in the southwestern part of the state makes Sour Bomb, available locally. Joseph Wolf, which is a client brewer at Blacklist in Duluth, makes Berlin Style Weiss, which is available in bottles locally. Blacklist itself brews a few sours, but I don't think they bottle any of them.

LTD has Emily's Dream, a Flanders Red, on tap right now. I happened to try it the other day but didn't care for it. HammerHeart is making Loki's Treachery Sour Smoked IPA, which uses Lactobacillus and is barrel-aged for 15 months. I don't think it has been released yet, and it sounds like it either will be awesome or awful.

Outside of the Twin Cities, Fitgers, Bemidji, and Kinney Creek all brew sours.

Sisyphus has a barrel-aged sours program in the works for which I have high hopes. I'm not sure if Indeed is planning on doing any true sours as part of its Wooden Soul series.

Schell's Noble Star collection. Good value, IMO. My favorite is Dawn of Aurora, followed by the North Country Brunette. Can't wait for the Peach.
