I'm trying to get into sours so I'm looking for suggestions on where to start. I recently tried new belgium's Clutch which was pretty damn good. Unfortunately I found out about it late so I can't track down any bottles. It has a darker malt profile which I like and isn't too tart. Any suggestions on some newb sours that I can find locally?

New Belgium La Folie and Duchesse De Bourgogne are my go to sours available in Tx. If you can find it JK Das Wunderkind is really tasty as well.

Seen any La Folie in SA? I had it on tap last night at FS and wouldn't mind getting a few bottles. I couldn't find it last night at my usual spots, but did get a bottle of Le Terrior - never had that tho, so I don't know how it compares.

I just picked up a bottle of La Folie at specs in Austin. I remember trying Duchesse a few years ago and thinking WTF. I'll need to try it again now that my tasters are growing up.

He said those that are not too tart, so La Folie may be out for him...
I second Das Wunderkind... not too tart.

True, but personally I have never found it to be too sour.

Id also suggest Goudenband by Liefman's.(blue label) You may be able to find JK Bonnie the Rare on tap some where in Austin.

I usually find La Folie at the Specs in San Antonio. If the new batch hasn't landed yet its all over the place in Austin.

Le Terroir is totally different, but very good. Its dry hopped. I haven't had it since it was released last year, so I don't know how its drinking now.

I also like Petrus Aged Pale and you can try Lindeman's Cuvee Rene.
La Folie is probably my favorite that's available in Texas, I really liked Eric's Ale and Le Terroir last year as well and hope they will return again someday.

I see the Lindeman's big bottles at Central Market south often. I have seen the small bottles at Whip In but not recently. I have never seen this beer at Spec's (Brodie), not sure why.

I see Lindemans Cuvee Rene all over the place in Corpus Christi. If you can't find one let me know and I will bring one up next time I'm in Austin.

So I'm real new to Texas (moved to Austin less than two weeks ago!) but I've had/seen a few sours since I've been here already. As mentioned before Jester King definitely makes some good ones and I've had two in Austin so far (bottle of Das Wunderkind! and Boxers Revenge on cask at Hopfields). Had La Folie for the first time a couple nights ago, Petrus Aged Pale and Monk's Cafe seem fairly easy to get a hold of as well. Also have seen Cuvee Des Jacobins Rouge on tap in a few spots. I mar need to revisit Duchesse sometime, only had it once before on tap and found it super super sweet and not sour at all.

BTW miikezombie, did you open up that Cantillon on V-Day!? How was it?

Yes we did. It was amazing. I can't thank you enough. If you can make it down to Freetail for the Old Bat Rastard release(Mar 3rd) let me know. We can share a few beers.

I would keep an eye on what's on tap at Jester Kings tap room. $10 for a tour and a glass. You can also sample the taps with a tour purchase.

Le Terrior? I wouldn't mind finding some of that, it sells quick in most places, is it 2011?

De Proef Zoetzur always gets overlooked in these debates. I like it better than the Reinart Flemish

Beat me to it. Zoetzuur is great.

Also when NB makes Eric's Ale, it is fantastic.

Awesome, thanks G! may need to find out where it is so I can sneak a bottle if I make it out to Freetail next month, It was sold out locally before I even knew it was there. FYI(to locals knowing where it is), I have had many ask about it too, has some trade value.
