Sour Power is one of the worst sours out there...recently had on tap a few days ago and the smokiness and aftertaste was just all sorts of wrong. Bad Example of the style IMO.

Totally agree. Duchesse was completely umderwhelming.

WHOA Dude! That will definitely turn the guy off to sours IMO. I know from personal experience the first time I took a sip of the Duchess I thought I had accidentally been served raw vinegar. That is a sour to be worked up to. Goudenbrand or maybe Cuvee Rene might be a better start. Ease into it, don't plunge head first. It could ruin your future chances of experiencing the mind altering tastes of some of the finest brews created.

OP - Since you're from MA, you can get a couple different sours being put out by Night Shift Brewery, most readily available being their Somer Weisse.

Funny, Duchesse was the first sour I really enjoyed, much easier to drink the many many other sours.

    to each their own.

    ..but seriously, try Duchess

Try a saison with brett if you can, I think Boulevard distributes to OK, try to find Saison Brett. Or trade for Anchorage Love Buzz or Logsdon Seizoen Bretta.

Awesome stuff. I'm sitting on a 2012 to see how it develops and I also have a Logsdon, excited to it.

I wasn't ready for pink beer when I had Aphrodite from Ommegang. I wasn't ready for apple cider vinegar beer when I had Petrus Old Aged.

But I was sure as hell ready for Oude Geuze

Citrusy sour like lemon pith, crisp hops and delicate malt. It wasn't a puckering sour, just a subtle pinch, and it had a brisk, tingly refreshing character otherwise. Very drinkable - opened the door to sours for me.

That sounds utterly awesome. We dont have anything at all from them that I have seen in OK though.

I am fortunate enough to live close to Russian River, so my first sours were Consecration and Supplication. And I always find myself going back for em. I'ma take Santa Rosa trip soon and I'm definitely gonna restock dem shits all up in ma fridgy.

Does anyone have any good Berliner Weisse recommendations?

There's not a whole lot that's readily available. I'd say the most common one is the Prof Fritz Briem 1809 Berliner. It's quite tasty, though. I actually like Festina Peche from Dogfish Head, but it's not particularly traditional and if I recall correctly, DFH pulled out of Wisconsin the same time they pulled out of Indiana.

Thank you everyone for the many recommendations! Just had my first Flanders Red ale, and it is down right delicious! It was a gift from my bartender, along with a couple others!

and here is the first pour!

    Cheers everyone!

Yeah, DFH pulling out of Wisconsin was a disappointment to me as I'd lived on the east coast (MD and PA) 6 years before coming to Wisconsin. I'd really like to try more Berliner Weisses but I agree with your assessment that there isn't much that's readily available- figured I must be missing something so I asked. Ah well.
