Headed to town this weekend. Unfortunately its for a funeral. What are the goto places right now for taps, bottles and anything rare? Also what kinda FFF availability on fresh gumball head, alpha kind and zombie dust(if this is distro?)? Thx for the help
Check out City Wide Liquor on Jefferson in South Bend, and the City Wide on grape road in Mishawaka. At both locations they will let you go into the fridge, so take that advantage. The Belmont Beverage next to Notre Dames campus is good too. These locations may have Alpha King, but doubtfully Gumballhead. The Martins supermarket next to Notre Dame right now has Alpha King, dreadnaught, panzer wolf, Risgoop, and calumet queen. For taps, check out Fiddlers Hearth and The Mark. They might, but will doubtfully have any Zombie Dust. A shame I'm not in town this weekend, I'd happily hook you up with some ZD and open a bottle or two with you if I was. Have a nice time in SB, and I'm sorry for your loss.
sorry for your loss... I agree with Fiddlers, they have great taps. Also the main st. pub close to UP mall has a solid selection. Bar Louie, which is attached to the mall, has also been known to have good stuff. I echo the bottle shops....City Wide on grape road has a ton of awesome stuff.... cheers!!
If time permits, go to Bare Hands Brewing just east in Granger IN- a very "under the radar" place. And Greenbush in Sawyer Michigan is only about 25 minutes away. For that matter, Three Floyds is only an hour (and a time zone- an hour earlier) away, as is Bell's (but not the time zone thing).
If cig. smoke doesn't bother you, try Bleachers at 4609 Grape Road Mishawaka, IN 46545 Sometimes it is less smokey than others, but they had Zombie Dust earlier this week - probably all gone by now. They also have a great tap line up and have great prices. But other than that, I would agree with what's been said above with priority given to Fiddler's and Bare Hands. Also, 3F Rye da Tiger was recently released and it's awesome.
The Martins mentioned above has a great selection and cheaper than the city wides when it comes to 3F and they just got Pumking back in stock also so Id start there first. For an overall selection the city wides have a bigger selection of course so you wont be disappointed at these spots. Good luck and sorry for your loss
Hey all...I am actually moving back into the area this fall. I lived in SB/Granger my whole life until work relocated me to SF in 2009. I used to hold tastings back at my place before I left. I am coming in this Thursday for a week to find a new house. Once I get settled I'll start those up again. I know Dan is still at Citywide Downtown (and I want to say I heard that Pat is there too now?). I also remember Josh (alleykatking) from before he went AWOL. I think I heard that he is no longer at Belmont by the Linebacker. I was last in the area in May 2011 and that was before Bare Hands had opened. I will definitely hit that up while I am there this week. Also interested to check out The Mark. I used to work in DT SB so I definitely remember Fiddler's Heart being the best spot at that time. Looking forward to revisting some old BA's and meeting some of the newer ones. Got lots of good beer to share.
