    Hey all --

My family's heading out to NORTH Carolina (Asheville, I'm dumb) next weekend, and they told me they're going to bring me back some beer.

I haven't had a lot of beer I can't get in my region (Grand Rapids, MI -- ironic with that whole poll thing -- but I promise I'm not intending to judge it cynically), so for the most part anything they bring back will be new to me.

Mostly, I'm just looking for "what's hot" right now. Nothing that'll take a scavenger hunt to come across, but they're heading to Bruisin Ales. Just wondering if anyone in the area can recommend some of the top beers out right now, the good seasonals, frequent staples in your own mixed six-packs, etc.

Not much of a style preference. IPAs, porters, browns, reds would be my favorites, but my tastes are all over the board. I just want to make sure I take advantage of the chance to try some of the best of the breweries in the southeast.

    Thanks BA.

    Asheville is in North Carolina.

Also, Bruisin Ales inventory is online and seems to be kept up to date for the most part.

Wow, I'm a geography expert. Wish I could blame that mistake on the beer, but I'm sober tonight and had the NC BA page open, too.

I've looked at the inventory. There's a TON on there I haven't had -- that's why I'm looking for a couple recommendations. I don't want to pull six random ones if there's a couple beers from the region that are more in the "can't miss" variety.

I really enjoy Foothills' People's Porter. They released a barrel-aged version a month or so ago, but I'm not sure if that one's still around.

Also be on the lookout for Olde Hickory's Seven Devils (barrel-aged Scotch ale) and Daniel Boone (barrel-aged brown ale).

I like Asheville Pizza's Ninja Porter. It's nothing crazy, just a very well made porter in my opinion.

Foothills Hoppyum is a good solid IPA, Mother Earth Sisters of Moon is a good IPA, and Olde Hickory Death By Hops DIPA. Duck Rabbit's Brown, Milk Stout and Porter are all good. Highland's Gaelic is a good solid pale ale. Sweetwater IPA is an excellent one. That's my best recommendations. Check SeekABrew.com. You can compare both states to see what you can get in NC vs MI. Good luck!

While they don't have their inventory listed online, check out Appalachian Vintner. Great guys. Great selection.

Anything Olde Hickory is always good stuff. Foothills Bourbon Barrel Peoples Porter is killer. Death by Hops is good but not great, you have better IPA's at home. Greenman comes by the growler , and I like their IPA.

Of those listed so far, only Greenman is in Asheville. Olde Hickory is, naturally, in Hickory. Foothills is in WinstonSalem, and Mother Earth is in the eastern part of the state. Here is a link to the breweries in Asheville on BA. It is a great beer City: http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/city/77

A long as it's available in bottles Brusin will have it in stock.
