I have a friend working in Deadwood, SD for a couple weeks and he said he's willing to bring back some beer for me. Can anyone recommend any good local or regional beers that are available in Deadwood and any liquor stores with a good selection? I'm open to a variety of styles.

    Thanks!

Crow Peak has some good beers in cans out there. Doubt there is anything else local that is packaged to travel in that area.

Truth be told... Outside of maybe crow peak's porter, nothing made in the black hills is really worth a damn, with the exception of the stuff that Hay Camp makes. They're only open Thursday and Friday nights, though, and growlers only (no distro).

The only beer I've really found to be of note in SD Is miner, which is in hill city, about an hour from deadwood and not packaged. The crow peak stuff is not bad if fresh, but not really awesome either. If you're looking to tick though, that's the way to go.

There is a new brewery in Lead, called Dakota Shivers, which is just down the road from Deadwood. Just a few ratings so hard to gauge. No idea if they package any of their beer either. You can try and contact the person who has rated them to find out more info.

Crow Peak is the only thing local that is actually packaging currently. Their beers are average. South Dakota is a craft beer wasteland to be honest with you. We have a few starting up in Sioux Falls, but time will tell if they're decent or not.

You can compare Colorado with South Dakota distribution at http://www.seekabrew.com/distro/compare.html and see if any of those that aren't in Colorado strike your interest. Looks like Schell's and Central Waters might have some options, if they make it as far west as Deadwood. Both have solid lineups. Anything from Schell's Noble Star collection would definitely be worth getting.
