Hey all, making a drive through South Dakota this weekend/next week. According to SeekABrew, these are the breweries available in SD and not in IA. I'm not so worried about the year round stuff (unless there's really something worth picking up), but anything seasonal or limited I should look for? Thanks!

    Alaskan
    Avery
    Bank
    Brau Bros
    Core
    Crazy Mountain
    Crow Peak
    Dark Horse
    Dog Tag
    Fargo
    Firehouse Grill & Brewery
    Grand Teton
    Horny Goat
Lucid (would like to pick up Duo or Foto #Fresh if available)
    Odell
    Salt Lake (Squatters)
    Tommyknocker
    Wild Onion
    Wooden Legs

Odell Myrcenary is a very tasty DIPA, although I'd check dates if I were you as I'm not entirely sure how fresh it is at this point.

Myrcenary is year round (not that I wouldn't still check the dates)

I don't know your route in SoDak, but be aware that there is good beer (meaning most of the above list) in Sioux Falls, and to a lesser extent in Brookings. There is also good beer in Rapid City. But, not so much in the rest of the state. My advice is to stock up in Sioux Falls and/or Rapid. YMMV

Some of Bank's recent offerings have been getting decent reviews: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/34719/?sort=avgD&view=beers

I've only had Hop Lab Blue, and it was tasty. The brewery is fairly close to Sioux Falls, so you might find it there.

All the way across the state to Rapid and back with a two day stop in Lennox/SF, so will have a shot at both metropolitan areas.

    Good to know.

I haven't seen Avery in the Sioux Falls area, so may be Rapid City area only. Firehouse is a brewpub in Rapid and AFAIK does not package. Wooden Legs is a micro in Brookings and also (AFAIK) does not package. All of the others have been/are available in Sioux Falls.

I'd keep a lookout for the Bank Hop Lab Series (Blue Label) IPA. It's really good, but pushing a month old. Banks' Sour Bomb is no sour bomb, but it's a nice Berliner. The new Odell Barrel Thief DIPA should be hitting shelves in Sioux Falls today or tomorrow. All of the Lucid beers are good and be sure to pick up one of their Gose if you can find it. If you're lucky there may still be some Dark Horse Plead the 5th hanging around. The Grand Teton reserve series beers (in 750s) are usually pretty interesting.

Taylor's Pantry/Good Spirits is my go-to package store in Sioux Falls. Monk's House of Ale Repute is your best bar bet.

Thanks. I'm surprised Sick-N-Twisted isn't on this list. I'm fairly certain they package, don't they? Anything there worth a try?

Sick and twisted gets some distro here in the black hills, but not a lot. Honestly, you're probably best off skipping any regular beer made by anybody in western sodak. The craft beer scene is pretty rapidly growing here, but the quality needs to get up to speed

Sick-N-Twisted is made in Hill City, SD. (Black Hills) What is your definition of "not a lot"?

Sick N Twisted has Sioux Falls distro as does Crow Peak

Any suggestions for best place to stop in Rapid? Saw a place called Boyd's.

Just came back from the hills this weekend.

Crow Peak is really solid. $10 for a six pack

Sick-n-twisted is fine. It's good to see a brewery out there, but the names, while tongue-in-cheak, are a little over the top ...(Hop on top, Bare Butt Bock, Woody, Hoppy Beaver, Nut Hugger, Creamy Wet Spot...). In Custer they wanted $13 for a bomber...overpriced.

FWIW, I grew up in SoDak, it is nice to see things brewed there. If you are in Brookings, they have a really nice brew pub called Wooden Legs. Still surprised there is nothing really coming out of Sioux Falls.
