South Dakota bottle hunt

Watertown is my hometown and my birthplace. I like Discount Liquor, they have come a long way in a short time. A good friend of mine (Katy) works there. She's awesome.

My favorite store still has to be the Hy Vee Wine and Spirits in Watertown, though. Best deals around. I plan to visit this Christmas.

What part of Minnesota are you in?

I wonder if the stout he is aging is actually the barrel aged cave aged dark lager they did. I think that was the most recent stag release. Timing seems to line up.

 

In the Sioux Falls area, we have a number of choices which I would rate in this order;

Good Spirits/Taylor's Pantry on Minnesota ave (two blocks North of I-229)
Fogey's at 57th and Marion
JJ's on Western (two blocks South of I-229)
World Market on Louise (two blocks off of I-29)
Any Hy-vee
Booze Boys on W 12th (a mile East of I-29), or South Cleveland

 

Are you talking a single Prairie Bomb!? If so, that's way too much. I paid $8.60 at Hy-vee by the mall in Sioux Falls a few weeks ago, and have found it a number of other places for as cheap as $6.99 ea.

 

Growler...

 

OK, wasn't thinking growler due to the thread subject. Growlers are something I intend to try, but haven't yet.

 

So - did you make it to any of the bottle stores in Sioux Falls, or did weather change your plans? If you made it, did you find anything good?

 

World market is grossly overpriced unless you find a sixer on sale or closeout.

Otherwise my favorite Hy vee location for selection is on Louise.

I'll be returning to God's Country for the holiday weekend, staying in Tea over the 4th. Any updates on what is available for growlers around SF? I can't imagine there is anything else that I can't get from the Twin Cities.

If anyone is wondering... "does this guy have any good beers to trade", or that he can grab for me, the answer is "can you shoot fireworks in the air in SD".
Yes, and possibly.

 

Plenty of places to get growler fills - most any of the taprooms, plus any Hy-vee liquor store, plus JJ's liquor, and Fogie's liquor. Other than the taprooms, JJ's has the widest selection. Most are probably available in the cities, with the exception of SD breweries that don't distribute there.

 

Some Hydra and Woodgrain beers might be worth a growler but I just don't get Fernson at all their IPA is average everything else is gross can't believe they are putting in more tanks!

 

Fernson seems to be growing, so somebody must like it.

 

It also helps when you have the backing of Vance Thomson. Their farmhouse ale is terrible definitely don't go for a growler of that!

 

I guess I was looking for a "what's on tap?". I"ll probably only stop at 1 place. Any chance Surly would be on tap? I'd take a growler of Furious if I had to. Any ideas?
