Going to be biking the Mickelson trail next week. Going to be in the following towns on the trip: Rapid City, Deadwood, Rochford, Hill City, Custer & Edgemont. Any recommendations for breweries, bottle shops, beer bars, places to eat? Also, what are the better beers floating around in that area currently? I like pretty much all styles. Thanks in advance.
I was down in that area about a month ago and didn't have much time to stop but the one I did stop at was Lost Cabin in Rapid City, great beers. I heard good things about Hay Camp in Rapid City from someone at the Lost Cabin Tap Room. Spearfish is close to Deadwood. They have Crow Peak, one of the first breweries in the area. There was a new one on main street too that I did not get to try. There are some others in the area that I had in the past that I was not that impressed with.
Hay Camp and Lost Cabin will be your go to breweries in Rapid. Independent Ale House is a nice tap room close to Hay Camp. In Hill City hit up Miner Brewing (same operation as Prairie Berry winery next door if you are into that). I'd avoid Sick N Twisted unless they've made vast improvements in the last couple years. Rochford has a fun little hole in the wall dive bar. Rochford is literally about five buildings, so you'll find it. Nothing craft beer related but worth a stop if you are thirsty. From there south, there isn't going to be much for good beer. In Custer there is a place called Buglin' Bull that has their own beer (not sure who actually brews it). Nothing great, but not bad. The food is good though. Enjoy the Big Mick ride. I did it a couple years ago and really need to get back.
