Someone had mentioned recently that they were trying to sell, but I haven't seen any announcements. Their Facebook and website are seemingly gone and they don't use their Twitter. I also read on Facebook that they haven't been open during regular business hours.
It is quite possible. The last time I was in there the assistant brewer was talking expansion and I rolled my eyes at that notion with the quality of beer I was drinking. There have been no check-ins on that beer app for a couple weeks.
I noticed that as well. It might also mean that tickers have enough self respect to not check in South Fork beers.
I know I'm not breaking news here but this does not surprise me if true and is a good thing for the industry. Places like this who after more than a year in business can't produce anything other than infected/sour beer should go away. This was by far the worst beer I've had in the state.
Their visit must of been around the same time as my last visit. I cannot say anything better than what they wrote. The problems at South Fork were so obvious but nothing had been done about for almost a year and a half. But when the head brewer is married to one of the owners, a change would be difficult. On the positive side, it sounds like Wayzata Brew Works has made improvements. I have not been there since last summer and left disappointed.
Hopefully new ownership comes with new brewers, completely new branding, and a taproom makeover (I haven't been there, but if the photo in the Heavy Table does it any credit it looks as cold and sterile as a doctor's waiting room.)
This is too bad to know if there were a few (probably easy) things to improve the beer. I think most of us have gone to breweries and wish it was better. Obvious problems should have been addressed. Hopefully the new owners will improve the brewery.
I drove by the building Christmas Eve when I went to Lupine to pick up growlers. It is in a good location. It's too bad they produced poor quality beer. Hopefully new owners can bring life to that property.
Between early reviews (Al - tough, Jack Of All Brews - kinder), the recent Heavy Table review, and everything I've read in between, calls for improvement were louder than shouts of praise. Hopefully the new owners will take it all into consideration as they move forward.
You mean I will not be able to try the barleywine at APN? http://growlermag.com/the-west-side-brewers-collective-eight-breweries-one-barleywine/
Would you want to? Hopefully the new owners dumped all the beer and gave the whole place a good sanitation wash.
I guess they announced on Facebook or just posted a sign on their building they are permanently closed. I do know the equipment has been bought by another group who are planning on opening a brewery in the metro area closer to Minneapolis or in Minneapolis. I am betting it will be in the western 'burbs. They are currently doing pilot batches at Lupine but not sure of plans to brew under contract until they get their own space open.
