You will have to go down to Benton Harbor or up to Saugatuck. Or farther to Sawyer or Holland or Paw Paw.
Drive 40 minutes north to the corner of 8th street and Central ave. in Holland. There you will find New Holland Brewing, Our Brewing, Hops on 8th, and the Caraugh Irish pub. Hops has 65 beers on tap. Enjoy.
As far as bottle shops, look no further than The Depot- the best in South Haven. I dig Brix as well as Joe's Bar and Grill for draft establishments. Of course, Saugatuck and Holland will give you even more options.
you need to go over/up to Grand Rapids, Hop Cat is one of the best beer bars in the country. the same owner has a place called Grand Rapids Brew Co, also a high quality brewpub.
As stated, you can travel north, south, or east, and find much better places for beer. While the Depot is the best bottle shop in town, it is nothing special as far as selection goes.
I must have hit the Buck at an off, off time because when I was there you couldn't even get a flight unless you let them pick the beers, and the tap list couldn't come close to the Beer Exchange or Hopcat. And the food is O.K. at best.
Thanks man, this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I know about the other great cities around the area(GR and Holland, etc.) but I will be traveling with my wife and 3 other couples so going to another city or town is pretty much out of the question. Thanks for everyone's input.
Stopped at the Liquor cabinet in St Joe and this store was top notch... Great selection, (they even had knee deep brewing and I scored some plead the 5th) good prices, and the staff was top notch. Brian really went the extra mile, he even took me to the back to help me track down any odd side ales he may have that weren't on the shelf. Definitely recommend stopping here. I know I'll be visiting again soon
