BA community. I have always enjoyed a great beer but it hasn't been until the last year that I really began getting into the wide world of craft beer. This holiday season I will be driving to south jersey (Sewell/depford area) from Pittsburgh to visit family. I plan on hitting tired hands/ springhouse/ pizza boy on my drive there or back. Where else should I hit be it bottle shops/ breweries/ brewpubs/ etc. looking to get some RR, carton, hardywood, etc. Thanks!

Conshohocken Brewing Co. is about 15 minutes from Tired Hands. I've only been there once, but I tried a few of their standards, and they were all above average.

For bottle shops, try Old Philly Ale House. It's not far from 76, and they usually have 1 or 2 RR beers available, though sometimes only Redemption and Damnation. Not that those are bad beers by any means. You should also try to swing by the Local 44 bottle shop. They soft release almost all of the beer they carry, so occasionally they have limited stuff available after it has come and gone at the other bottle shops in town. They had a mess of Gingerbread Stout last time I was in there, but I don't know if they still do.

Old Philly had Consecration, Damnation, Supplication and Redemption there on Monday. $20 per but premium for hard to obtain bottles.

Carton in that area of SJ: Canal's in West Deptford & Mt. Ephraim, or Roger Wilco in Pennsauken. Usually at least one will have a Carton beer on the growler station(all update their growler stations on Beermenu) and all 3 get deliveries of cans. What is left will be another story.

Also, would it be worth the drive up to Kane?

Only if you've got time and like delicious beer.

Hard to beat the selection at Capones bottle shop in Norristown, PA. They will fill growlers too and always have interesting stuff on tap. The owner is very friendly/helpful too... you could probably call or email ahead to see if they have what you're looking for.

I visited Kane and love their beer. Just to warn you, they usually do not have bottles for sale. Growlers always.

Another place to look at, depending on which way you're driving, is Pinocchios in Media--reasonable prices (for PA), nice selection on tap, knowledgable folks working there, sometimes have RR and Hardywood in stock.

In Jersey and bit south of Sewell is Glassboro and I've stopped at the Hops and Grapes on Delsea Road a few times to pick up some interesting stuff there when heading "down the shore." (There's also a Joe Canals on Delsea but I've not been in there.)

Also if you are visiting for several days and a brewery tour interests you, Flying Fish is not that far north of where you'll be. While I find most of their beers to be reasonable, I'm a big fan of their Exit series (mostly in 750ml bottles), some of which have become regulars in their standard offerings.

Finally the Places directory for Jersey can give you the locations of several of the small new breweries that have just opened in the last year or so. Some are in South Jersey and are doing some pretty good beers.

As far as SJ breweries close to where you'll be:
Flying Fish in Somerdale was already mentioned. Forgotten Boardwalk is in Cherry Hill. Village Idiot and Spellbound are in Mt Holly. Iron Hill has 2 brewpubs, one in Voorhees and one in Maple Shade.

You could easily hit 3 or 4 of those in 1 trip. I'd recommend a DD, though.

Pretty hard to beat the Local 44 bottle shop. If you want an amazing shop near Tired Hands, check out The Greeks Next Door. Always an awesome selection at great prices. It's about 8 minutes away.

Thanks everyone! I'm excited to head east and check out some great places. I go back to visit a few times a year and I don't know why I have never thought to do this before. Whatever I don't hit this time I will definitely hit next time.

Check out Prism Brewery in North Wales, Felony IPA is awesome. Best draft bars in Philly are Barcade, Kraftwork, Grey Lodge and Bainbridge Street Barrel House

Trenton Road Takeout, not far from the Delaware River, has a great selection and great prices. I saw the Hardywood BBG there today for $17. Prices on the bottle are what you pay at the register.
