Anyone have any recommendations for a beer brewed with Southern Brewer hops? I can't seem to find any, and I'm very interested in the variety.
Yeah that's the only thing I could find too, I'm hoping I can convince a local microbrewery to experiment with them. Anyone else know of any beers brewed with southern brewer hops?
Yeah I thought of that too, but I've never brewed before. I wouldn't trust my batch to due the hops justice
Are you sure this is the hop you are looking for? "Southern Brewer Hops is considered a bittering hops variety for brewing. Its alpha acid content can vary, but tends to reside in the 9.0%-10.5% range. Despite Southern Brewer's high level of myrcene oil and registering farnesene oil it does not have any outstanding flavor or aroma qualities, and is most applicable to bittering additions to the kettle." It also goes on to say its parents are both Fuggles and open pollination hops, and its descendant and substitute is Southern Promise. http://beerlegends.com/southern-brewer-hops
Windhoek Lager, Namibia Breweries Ltd uses Southern Brewer. The recipe can be found over at Home Brew Talk.
