While checking out their website I came across this "late autumn" first ever release. I haven't seen it mentioned on the boards yet, surprisingly. ”double spiced ale brewed in the tradition of Swedish Glögg” http://www.stbcbeer.com/seasonals/seasonal-standard/2xmas-beer-page/
Hopefully they do a good job with it, otherwise it could just be a mess of cardamom, orange peel, currants, raisins, almonds, cinnamon and cloves. They balance has to be right otherwise it will be like one of the horrible warmers that taste like you are chewing io nutmeg. Mot sure ST is the greatest brewery fir this beer, but if they pull it off it would make sense to age it in rum and port barrels then blend them all back together, maybe with some vodka extract to make it close to the traditional drink's profile. Oh man I'm getting thirsty for glogg now. Guess I'll be making some early this year
Just had one for the first time. The first thing that comes to mind is liquid Christmas. Very bold as I would expect from a ST 2x.
I know that some BAs avoid holiday spiced beers on principal and that's fine. This was a pleasant surprise for me and something that I'll probably pick up every year (although maybe just a couple singles vs. a 6-pack). One reviewer mentions that it's like "drinking Santa". I'd concur. If you think that SN Celebration is spicy, wait until you get a load of this one.
