I have the option of picking up a sixtel of Southern Tier Bourbon Barrel Backburner from a Hunterdon retailer and wanted to see if anyone has had a chance to taste yet? There are only 4 reviews for it but I'm guessing others have tried it and just not posted a review. I already have Parabola on tap in my basement which is obviously high ABV but if the BBA Backburner is solid I won't pass on it even at 14.1%... Should I snag it or pass on it?

Here is a link to the reviews thus far:

    What say you?

I loved their oak aged backburner....I can only tell you if I had access to a bourbon barrel aged version I would jump on it.

Depends if you wanna spend the cash I guess. 3 out of the 4 reviews say its very good and one has it as shitty. I'm also jealous that you have parabola on tap!

It is an awesome beer; very bourbon forward when I had it a few months ago. I wish they would bottle it. I say go for, and be careful.

Its amazing, they rolled it out at Rochester Real Beer Expo. Go for it. Be careful is good advice as well. There are many embarrassing pictures that are a result of me drinking a growler of regular Back Burner at a work function.

One of the Rochester area BAs jumped on a sixtel and raves about it.

I haven't had it, and most likely nor will I have it anytime soon thanks to Ohio's 12% law.

    I say go for it.

Damn bro, if I had Parabola on draft in my basement, my afternoons and weekends would be really unproductive

Is this a different recipe than the regular Backburner, or is the ABV incorrect?

You'd be getting plenty of work done on that keg

BB Backburner is fantastic. I would jump on it. My buddy has it on tap at his house.

I do have to limit myself to a snifter here and there. I really lucked out in getting it but man is it dangerous...

Based on what you guys have said thus far it seems that the opinion is I should get it while I can. I have 3 weeks to decide as I have it reserved for that long. I will wait to hear what everyone has to say before ultimately deciding.

As for money, the keg is not cheap at $140 but that works out to be ~$3.41 per pint which is really not that outlandish. Not to mention that at the ABV I would imagine I will enjoy that beer for many months to come(unless my buddies start really binge drinking).

If you already have Parabola on tap, why do you want another similiar beer.
Unless Parabola is almost out, I say skip it and get something a little bit different.

I just tapped Parabola last weekend so there is still plenty left. My thoughts were that it is not often that I can get my hands on sixtels of this nature so since I have the capacity to hold three kegs, why not? With that said I wouldn't entertain the thought if the beer itself was receiving shitty reviews, hence my inquiry. I hear you on having similar beers though (or at least beers with similar characteristics). Decisions...
