A local place is going to have Nugget Nectar in September. Is this another special batch brewed for GABF?

Hmmmm.... I wonder what local place could be doing this? However, coincidentally, I do see that Lure's is having a Troeg's pint night in September. Hmmmm....

ahh if it's just a sixtel/quarter they have been holding on to...not the wisest idea.

it wont be bad, but I can say with 100% certainty that it wont be the same beer it was in January/February.

Looks like it's this event at Iron Hill. I was wondering the same thing about a special batch being brewed.

This year's nugget nectar was terrible. Can't imagine what it tastes like now.

The OP is from Crofton, Md., and he mentioned that a local place was going to be tapping it. The only local place I could think of near Crofton is Lure's, and I know they've had NN on tap there in the past (I've gotten it there). It's also the kind of place that I can see holding onto a keg of NN to serve in late Summer.

Could be completely wrong about my guess, but when I saw on their website that they were having a Troegs pint night in September, it seemed like a logical guess.

You're right, it is Lures. I thought they would know better about NN but I guess not.

I hope so since the case I bought was gross. I have no idea what it's high praise is about. Tastes like hoppy Yuengling. I'll never buy this or any Troegs beer again. Too much other great stuff out there, and this is probably just an old batch of a hoppy beer that wasn't good fresh.

This actually sounds like disrespect to Yuengling, which it wasn't meant to be since it's the same price as BMC for me but so so much better. NN at almost $50 a case is a joke.

I urge you to try NN again when it is released in Feb.(?) as by then the new brewery should be dialed in, and hopefully NN will be back to the fantastic hoppy masterpiece many of us remember and love.

I liked it enough to buy a case and a half . We had 3 separate fresh batches come down here . Did hear that there was at least one bad batch but all the ones I had tasted great .

Some IPA's "fade" well. I'd say Nugget Nectar is one of them. I've had bottles 8 or 9 months old. It's not the same beer as February for sure, but it's not terrible...just more of a "faded" version of fresh. Maybe it's the hops, I don't know. NN is one, Two Hearted, SN Celebration, Ruination...all of these "fade" well.

Dogfish 90 min is the worst example in the opposite direction. When the hops fade, you just have a syrupy, sticky mess. I've had older bottles of Flower Power, Stoudts Double IPA, and others that are barely drinkable once they have more than a couple months on them.

Ignoring the fact that NN is not an IPA, I tend to agree. NN is not terrible after a few months.

Never buy another Troegs product again... because you didn't like this years batch of NN? That's stupid, kid... have you ever had NN before this past batch?
That attitude is a great way to miss out on a shitload of fantastic beer, and sound like a huge jackass at the same time.. If I made a vow like that every time a brewery made a beer I hated, I'd have no beers left that I'd drink.

Yup- this year was inconsistent, for sure. But that didn't stop me from getting a second case even though the first one was disappointing- and the next one was happily up to snuff.

They might say its not an ipa .. but it is. They like to pride themselves in saying they've never brewed an ipa outside of their scratch series. Same thing goes for perpetual.

Troegs does make some truly fantastic brews I havent tried many from the Scratch series but the few I have were great ! Flying Mouflan is an AMAZING beer and THE coolest label out there too boot. Mad Elf will def get the job done come winter !! With that said I am not a big fan of N.N. at all I truly dont what the fuss is about and it is cost prohibitive to me . Had it fresh didnt really make a difference.

Somehow, it just seems a bit early in the season for the annual "nugget nectar isn't as good as everyone says it is/does anyone else notice that this year's NN isn't as good as previous year's?"

As others have mentioned, this past year's batch was the first batch made at the new, larger brewery. Hence, I think it's to be expected that it would take some time before Troeg's would be able to make NN comparable to what they were making at the old brewery. The same thing happened with bottled pliny when RR started using a new brewing system several years back (the first couple of batches were way off). In time they ironed out all the problems and bottled pliny is now very comparable to what the brewery was making prior to the expansion. Frankly, I would expect nothing less from a brewery with the track record of Troegs, who have been making NN for roughly a decade now. I also noticed some batch variation this past year, but I'm willing to give them a pass, given the circumstances, and have high hopes that this year's batch will be back up to snuff (so to speak).

Prices ara a bit on the high side I guess, but overall, I think they're pretty comparable to what most East Coast breweries charge for their IPA's, especially a limited release seasonal like NN.
