I go in there headed towards the beer section. I see an employee walking out of the back room with 2 bottles of Whiskey Barrel Double Pecans in hand. I ask him, could I have one of those. He says sorry these are the last two, as he hands them to some old skinny guy. I ask really? No response. So what happened to this whole one bottle per customer deal?

    u mad, bro?

I don't really see anything wrong with that, as developing a friendly relationship with your "beer-guy" has it's perks. Now if it were a case then I'd probably be pissed.

Yeah, shit happens to those of us who don't spend the required amount.

    That's BS.

I don't know how you can be mad. That's like going to a bar and the bartender having a heavy hand for you, and a jigger for me. Maybe that "old skinny guy" is a regular customer. Not just for the special releases.

The old skinny guy read your post and said he didn't know it was a one bottle limit. He's friends with the beer guys and he buys every new release. I wish I could get that connection. Maybe he'll share that Pecan Porter with me. I was there a couple of hours earlier and I didn't see any.

From what I read it was kept in the back and you had to ask for it.

It does pay to have friends who work at SPECS. And of course it feels shitty when witnessed by someone who doesn't. Every friend that gets over the bottle limit, is one less person who gets to try the brew. It's not the holding for a friend that gets me, it is allowing him more than one on a limited one bottle brew, and allowing customers to see it.

As much as it sucks, yea, get to know your beer guy at the local store. I've been working on the relationship with my guys at the Spec's by my office. I'm there once, twice a week. They know me well and when I need something I know they will give me the hook up seeing how I'm a good "regular" customer.

The only bad thing about that is over many years of shopping at Specs is they go through many beer guys.

I only go there when I have to. Excepting the one dude I had a positive interaction with; the beer guys are dicks. I was once told if I couldn't find it at Spec's Midtown I wouldn't find it anywhere, but I always have better luck at the Spec's on Westheimer and Kirkwood. Nicer staff and, for whatever reason, always seem to have whatever DFH release I'm looking for when the other places don't. Pretty much only go there after D & Q sells out of whatever big bottle release is happening by like one in the afternoon.

Our downtown location has had 2 managers since 2008. Joey and Lindsey (current)

I'm not talking about managers. It's the floor staff around the beer dept.

I assure you that I say this in the most constructive way, but sometimes, unless you know the guys personally who have been there since '08, SPECS beer guys aren't so friendly. Between my boyfriend and I, we spend a ton of money on beer down there. The guys up front all know us, and are friendly as can be(even though often get an attitude when we try to find a couple nice boxes in the stack to put the $300-$400 of single bottle beer we just bought in), even some of the cashiers that have been around a while are nice. I generally get snubbed when asking beer questions of the beer guys though. I personally think the random guys on the floor tend to be nicer and more helpful. They aren't above doing their job yet.
