The idea that coffee flavor fades makes complete sense if you are at all familiar with third wave / craft coffee. Coffee nerds are actually much pickier than IPA drinking beer nerds. I prefer coffee that was roasted within the last 2-5 days. The best coffee beer you ever have is one you infuse with fresh roasted coffee beans yourself. Saying coffee doesn't fade is just as wrong as saying hops don't fade.

Come on, even after the 24th hour you can notice the fade.

That's been my experience. 2-3 days is the sweet spot. That reminds me, I have some 7/2 roasted coffee to drink.

Alesmith is just solid. I've never had a bad beer from them

Somebody forgot to tell that to the 2012 coffee stout I drank yesterday... Delicious dark chocolate flavors, but not much coffee.

It must be your palate, coffee flavors don't fade, as they're magically immune to the chemical reactions that cause every other flavor in beer to evolve over time.

    Make it stop, please.

[The Old Ale induced hangover I have, as well as the coffee fading discussion]

You're fine - strong IPAs and IIPAs just age into barleywines, so it will be a delicious coffee barleywine.
