Finally got to check these guys out, I was really impressed! They're located in Mt Holly NJ...their six-packs have been showing up at our Canals recently and they're good but trying this stuff from the source was a real eye-opener. All of the beers we tried were crazy-fresh and clean tasting, with all the flavors dialed in and direct. More Vermont than West Coast...

Just wanted to show them some BA forum love coz they don't seem to be getting a lot of hype but they should. I liked how understated their whole vibe was -- none of the beers had funny names. The Mango Pale Ale was a Mango Pale Ale that tasted like a Mango Pale Ale. Awesome.

I haven't made it out to the brewery but I really want to get there. I tried them at the AC beer fest this past year and honestly wasn't expecting anything great. I couldn't have been more wrong, the IPA was phenomenal!

Darn, so you mean you can make great beer even when it is not strange and beautiful beer? Who would have known.

There is a nice write-up on Spellbound Brewing in the recent (July) issue of Philly Beerscene Magazine; article entitled Building a Brewery.

Good to hear they are making quality beer.

    Cheers!

I think the understated, simple names for the beers is what gave them the wow factor for me, because each was a surprise. I am very sparing with my "wow out louds" but I said wow more than a few times when tasting their beers. Definitely worth a visit, I can't wait to go back.

How about to the counties in South Jersey first?...lol. And then you'll get some.

Whichever area is closer should definitely get some first so that's fair I guess :stuck_out_tongue:
I can't be too selfish living right outside of NYC with all the local breweries doing awesome things recently plus a couple new local Jersey guys too (Magnify, Brix City).

Spellbound is great. I've been there twice so far.

The most recent time I was there, they held a charitable event for One Rescue (for pups and kitties). The beer is very good #1. #2, they are animal friendly which is outstanding in my book.

Their IPA shows up in Joey C's in Lawrenceville, NJ from time to time. Their peach IPA is outstanding as well. I hope they plan on canning that because I could drink that all day. Definitely worth a visit to the brewery if you are going to be around Mt. Holly. Very friendly bunch there.

Big Spellbound fan here also. Their regular porter and Palo Santo porter are really good too. Was just there this past sat. Tried the Citra Pale Ale which was also very good. I preferred it to the Mango Pale Ale. I really hope they can their porter this fall/winter. Spellbound will usually post on twitter when they are canning their IPA. They usually do it on Sundays and you can get a fresh case right off the canning line.

Does Spellbound own their own canning line or do they use a mobile canning service?

    Cheers!

I visited several weeks ago and was impressed. Their IPA is very good. I was most impressed with the coffee porter. That was incredible. I mentioned they need to can that and they said they had no plans to in the immediate future, but the regular porter would be canned. Not sure on the timeline, but that's great news nonetheless.

I have heard most likely fall for the regular porter in cans. They didn't want to launch a porter in cans in the warmer weather months.

I also was not impressed with Forgotten Boardwalk. I had them and Spellbound right after each other at the AC beer fest and I thought Spellbound was far superior.

Spellbound blows Forgotten Boardwalk out of the water in almost every respect. SB actually does awesome variants of their base beers (IPA and Porter), while FB keeps dabbling with adding ingredients to their mediocre wheat beer and passing them off as new releases.

I think FB is to gimmicky..Funnel Cake , then I saw they had a Strawberry Short cake beer. Maybe I am to old school but make solid base beers first. Ie.. Spellbound IPA and Porter.

Huge Spellbound fan. The Gingerbread Porter was incredible. I like them way better then the other brewery in Mt. Holly and I agree that they blow FB out of the water. I heard a rumor that they are going to can the Peach IPA. I hope it's true.

It's probably because of their location, because not many people travel through Mt. Holly, but you're right Spellbound needs to get more recognition. I've had probably a dozen of their beers so far, and not one has been sub par. I love their Peach IPA and Peach DIPA. All of their porters are solid. And even their "off the wall" stuff like Gingerbread Ale is nicely done.

I believe they are better than all of their competition in the area right now (Village Idiot, Forgotten Boardwalk, Lunacy, Flying Fish)
