As far as bottle shops, I'd go with frugal Macdoogal. Good selection on the liquor side (high grav beer is on the liquor side since TN is pretty archaic when it comes to beer laws), and huge selection on their beer side. Another good one is Midtown wine and spirits. Those are probably the two biggest. I'm not from nashville, but have family and friends there and those are the two I would suggest.

There is always a good live music show somewhere in Nashville. Simple google search can probably tell you more. Lots of bars on broadway right before the river. Near the Bridgestone arena.

Any local brews to seek out?

Yazoo is local. Try Sue, a great Porter and not pricey at about $5 a bomber. Terrapin (from Ga) also distributes there. Try their Hi-5 IPA, Liquid Bliss (Chocolate-PNB Porter).

Go to the Broadway Brewhouse near Vanderbilt. I think it has the best selection that I have seen in town. The downtown location is not as good, in my opinion. There is also a Flying Saucer in the old Union Station building that is pretty good.

Second the Yazoo and Terrapin. Terrapin is my favorite brewery from GA, but a lot of people like Sweetwater as well. Their 420 pale ale and their IPA are good. For Yazoo I definitely suggest Sue, and Dos Perros is good.

Spent lots of time there. Yazoo is cool, went on a Wednesday night and it was packed. You must go to the Flying Saucer, it is the best stop there. Broadway Brewhouse is a hole in the wall, but the selection is top notch. For Bottle Shops I recommend Frugal McDougal, huge selection. Keep in mind that for beers over 6% you have to go to a liquor store. Macdougal has beer in one store and liquor next door, so it is convenient.

That's good to know. Hah in Oklahoma any beer over 3.2% has to be sold in a liquor store.

Piggybacking on this thread....I will be down in Nashville tomorrow night and was hoping to check out some stuff from Black Abbey, Tennessee Beerworks, and/or Turtle Anarchy. I see all 3 aren't open on Wednesdays, so where in town should I be able to find some beers from these guys? I have checked out some of the rec's on this site and from that it would seem that Flying Saucer is my best bet, at least based on what info these places have made available online. I haven;t found the beer lists for a numbers of the places though so just don't want to overlook anything.

Yazoo is open Wednesday evening. Look for things that are close together since Nashville has sprawl. I have done Yazoo and Saucer in same night, they are close. You could also do Blackstone and Broadway Brew, they are across the street from each other. You could really hit all four in same night, they are all close. Turtle Anarchy and Cool Springs are South of Nashville, pretty long haul

Can't recommend Craft Brewed enough. Small, locally-owned store that has a great selection of high and low gravity beers despite its small size. Go and talk to Ryan or Sean on the liquor side. They will take great care of you.

Just checked Craft Brewed's site out and see they offer a tap list. Looks really good, will do my best to make them my drinking stop tonight.

@denver10 they do on-premise for low gravity beers (below 6.3% abv) in bottles and on tap. While they do growler fills of high gravity stuff (they have an ultra-fresh keg of Lagunitas Sucks on right now that is super tasty), you can't drink any high gravity stuff on-premise. Just an FYI. Enjoy!

My visit three years ago landed me at Blackstones. Good beers, great food. Bosco's was closed, we hit Big River at last call and only got a flight, which wasn't bad. Yazoo was by far the best brewery choice, Flying Saucer was great for beer choices but way too crowded and filled with fratboys. Broadway Brewhouse was very good, good food and beer list.

Do yourself a favor and go out to Cool Springs Brewery. I rate their beer up there with any in the area. Plus good food.

Nashville bottle shop - would hit Craft Brewed over any. If out in Franklin, go to Red Dog.

Frugal mcdougal was kind of a confusing nightmare and everything seemed really dusty, but craft brewed was really really awesome. Sean and Ryan were incredibly helpful. Really great place.
