I had searched but didn't see this brewery on here as a thread. If I missed it could a moderator please remove this thread.

If not I wanted to talk about this brewery and their beers. They just celebrated their 5 year anniversary this past year. Most of their beers are heavy hitters with high ABV. Regularly they have their RIS Boris the Spider at 10% and recently put up a Boris Jr. which is 11.2%. They have a great Rye barely wine which was over 10% as well as their imperial brown, variety of IPAs and their seasonal Rasberry Quake which is an American strong ale at 9% and their Pumpkin which is the best pumpkin beer I've ever drank at 8/9%.

Was wondering others thoughts about this Brewery?

Fan of Boris but haven't had it in a while. I haven't been over to the brewery in a while. Maybe they've changed but their IPAs tend to be on the really sweet side

You just joined and your first post sounds like a press release for the brewery. So people are going to suspect that you are a representative of the brewery.

    Never heard of them before.
Based on the reviews here it looks like it's just another mediocre brewery. Glad you enjoy them.

Do they still use a contract brewer? I pretty much am against that whole idea.
A few years ago I had some Boris the Spider but it was really rough and ashy, like cigarettes. Haven't considered them since (nor have I really ever seen them around the NYC area on draft).

So Boris is 10% and Boris Jr is 11.2? Seems backward.

Always found their beers extremely mediocre. Not to mention I never see them fresh. With so many good breweries around now they are years behind.

I've been underwhelmed by them a couple times, too, but I've also had some good ones. Enjoyed Boris several times--and would like to try the Boris Jr.--but also had it once where it was pretty rough. I went to the tap room back in the fall and thought the double IPA tasted very solid and also enjoyed a Gose.

I agree with some of the others that they're not exactly cutting edge, but it's also a nice option to have around.

Average at best. Not terrible, but not great.

Rarely see them on shelf anymore they really don't sell well around here. First batch of Boris was really good, since then it's like a different beer, ashy and dull like others mentioned.

Anymore in the Metro/Lower Hudson/Mid Hudson area of NYS if you aren't world class brewers don't even bother to open.

sipping on the BA Boris at the moment and LOVING it. I've always found Spider Bite to be super underrated. Whilst I agree, bottles around are likely "vintage" but when fresh, I find spider bite to be one of the better beers available on LI.

All that said, I agree with what others have said about the changes in beer and beer tastes in recent years and spider bite not keeping pace. Spider bite beers are just extremely well made imo, but they aren't making juicy ipas and if you aren't making juicy ipas, people just don't seem to care unless it is super adjunt and artificial. Its not like you hear people raving about a really great brown ale, but that's the kind of thing that spider bite does.

Not sure why spider bite never really caught on, but much like greenport harbor imo, they were killing it a few years ago and just weren't on the map and seemed to go deeper and deeper underground over time and not keep up with changes so people looked away at whatever is new and shiny. I'm no fan of moustache, but at least they are trying to keep pace with what people are interested in by canning a variety of IPAs and getting their name out there. Spider bite really needs some good representation and fresh product to spread around and get people to try...and it wouldn't hurt for them to brew a juice bomb since I'm sure they'd dial in a monster.
